These scams include investment fraud, phishing attacks, and social media tricks. As online criminals become more advanced, both people and businesses in Hong Kong are at greater risk. Experts are urging for better public awareness and stronger cybersecurity practices to fight this growing problem and protect the digital world.

Stop Online Fraud Before the Point of No Return
Identity fraud has become a significant challenge for organizations, with losses from identity theft exceeding $635 billion in 2023 and account takeover attacks surging by 354% year-on-year. Additionally, attempted fraud transactions have increased by 92%, with the amounts involved skyrocketing by 146%. As more businesses and individuals turn to online channels, the volume and sophistication of fraud continue to escalate. While governments worldwide are working on updating cyber laws to hold perpetrators accountable, the most effective strategy is to prevent fraud before it occurs.

Sanjeev Shukla 
Managing Director, Accenture 

Sanjeev Shukla currently leads the cyber industry practice for Accenture Security across Australia, New Zealand, Greater China, Japan, India, Latin America and Southeast Asia market units (MUs). He has over 24 years' experience with clients spanning financial services, communications, media and technology and has worked in geographies including Asia-Pacific, Europe and North America.

Shukla has worked closely with Boards and CXOs to evaluate their organizations’ cybersecurity resilience, as well as with CISOs to define set priorities and improve cybersecurity effectiveness. Over the years, he has been an active participant in FS-ISAC, besides other regulatory and industry dialogues.

In his current role, he works with MU security leaders to grow their business through industry-specific cybersecurity offerings and solutions. He is also responsible for developing a community of industry practitioners across the region.

Previously, Shukla led Accenture’s Cloud First Security in Europe and also served as the lead for Financial Services Security lead in the UK and Ireland (UKI) market unit. He has also led the UKI market unit across all industries. He also spearheaded the establishment of a Cloud Security Centre in Portugal to serve European clients.

He has conceptualized and led many transformative innovations, which are widely adopted by clients globally and recognized by industry analysts. He also holds several patents in robotics process automation and machine learning.

Before joining Accenture in 2005, Shukla established Wipro’s cybersecurity practice in APAC. He has also worked with Deloitte and EY.
