.png) | | Dongguan’s high-tech sector is flourishing, making it one of the fastest-evolving innovation hubs in the Greater Bay Area (GBA). Against this backdrop, Felix Lee, Chairman of the China Committee, led a delegation to the city on 16 May to explore cutting-edge development opportunities and strengthen collaboration between Hong Kong’s professional services sector and Dongguan’s dynamic industries.
The visit focused on Dongguan’s rapidly expanding innovation and technology (I&T) platforms and key industrial projects, aiming to foster win-win partnerships that drive economic growth across the GBA. Delegates toured several major sites to gain insights into the city’s tech ecosystem, sustainability initiatives and talent policies.
At the Binhaiwan Exhibition Center, interactive multimedia displays showcased the district’s urban development blueprint and core industries. Kexing Science Park impressed members with its integrated life science ecosystem, which provides R&D, production, housing and commercial facilities. Meanwhile, OPPO’s Global Computing Power Centre – a flagship of Dongguan’s digital economy – highlighted its role in providing robust computing solutions for businesses.
Members also visited the Binhai Bay Hong Kong Macao Youth Home Innovation and Entrepreneurship Base, which attracts and nurtures young entrepreneurs from Hong Kong and Macao through policy support, platform development and resource integration, fostering collaboration among the region’s youth.
Luo Bin, Secretary of the Binhaiwan Bay Area Party Working Committee, told members that what they had seen represented only one-fifth of Binhaiwan’s potential. “We’re eager to deepen collaboration with Hong Kong, particularly in innovation and talent, to propel the GBA’s industrial upgrade,” he explained.
Huawei’s Songshan Lake Campus offered a glimpse into smart park technologies, from automated patrol systems to digital management solutions.
The trip ended with the Dongguan-Hong Kong Economic and Trade Exchange Symposium. Held under the theme “Leveraging Hong Kong’s Core Strengths in Services to Help Dongguan Enterprises Expand into International Markets,” delegates engaged with representatives from 24 Dongguan businesses on leveraging Hong Kong’s professional services to help them access the international market.
In his keynote speech, Lee said: “We are delighted to meet with Dongguan businesses to understand each other’s needs and strengths, which allows us to introduce Hong Kong’s service industry landscape and provide practical support for Dongguan businesses that aspire to go global.”
Chamber representatives also shared their experiences in overseas expansion, covering areas such as sustainability, accounting and auditing, wealth management, litigation and mediation.

Moderated by Felix Lee, Chairman of the China Committee, the session covered a quick glance at Trump 2.0 economic and trade policies, the impact of retaliation tariffs on U.S. processing trade and bonded logistics and the classification and application of rules of origin for goods exported to the U.S, provided valuable takeaways for businesses across industries, especially those managing international trade under complex tariff regimes.

Xu briefed the Chamber on the upcoming visit to Hong Kong by the Secretary of the Jilin Provincial Committee of the CPC, the first in over a decade. He also invited Chamber members to attend the Jilin–Hong Kong Economic and Trade Cooperation and Changbai Mountain Ginseng Promotion Seminar next month.
In addition, Xu delivered a personal invitation to the Chamber for the 15th China–Northeast Asia Expo to further strengthen economic ties and exchanges between Jilin and Hong Kong.

.png) | | Zhu Min, Director of the Shanghai Commission of Commerce, visited the Chamber on 25 April to exchange views on the evolving global environment and explore avenues for closer collaboration between Shanghai and Hong Kong.
During a meeting with Chamber CEO Patrick Yeung, Zhu stated that the purpose of the visit was to understand Chamber members' insights into the current international landscape. He hoped for deeper cooperation between the two cities by leveraging Hong Kong’s unique role as a channel to navigate global market challenges, including tariff-related issues.
Zhu also discussed Shanghai’s recent efforts to boost domestic consumption through events such as the Shanghai Food Festival, the Global Food Festival and Pet Fashion Week. He said China's vast and highly competitive market encourages rapid innovation and the swift emergence of new enterprises, which helps maintain strong product competitiveness.

.png) | | Xiao Zhiyong, Vice Mayor of Shaoguan Municipal People’s Government, visited the Chamber on 24 April to gather feedback from Hong Kong businesses and explore opportunities for collaboration. During a meeting with Edmond Yew, Vice Chairman of the China Committee, Xiao said he hoped to attract more investment to Shaoguan through the Chamber.
Shaoguan is a cultural and industrial hub in northern Guangdong, known for its rich history, Zen traditions and Hakka culture. It also has a strong industrial base, particularly in steel and mining. It boasts 88 kinds of mineral resources, 22 of which rank first in Guangdong.
Xiao stated that the city has received approval to establish a data centre cluster as a national computing power hub node for the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, offering computing power support for the entire region. The authorities are focused on upgrading traditional industries while developing emerging sectors, such as new materials and digital infrastructure, and seeking opportunities for deeper cooperation with Hong Kong.

Liu Suya pointed out that Hunan's population ranks eighth in the country, providing a solid foundation for market potential. Additionally, Hunan's strategic focus on rail transportation, particularly the development of high-speed rail, will further enhance the convenience of transportation within the province and promote economic growth.
Hunan’s industrial system is well-developed, encompassing both the biomedical sector and rapidly growing emerging industries, making it highly attractive for businesses. She noted that as the provincial capital, Changsha is home to many well-known brands, such as Chayan Yueshe, contributing to Hunan's consumption growth rate, ranking third in the nation.
She also invited members to participate in the Hunan-Hong Kong Investment and Financing Matching Meeting on 14 May, aiming to explore business opportunities together.

The visit provided an opportunity to promote collaboration between think tanks and businesses. Zhen emphasized the vital role of entrepreneurs, noting that private enterprises in China contribute over 60% of the country’s GDP and account for more than 80% of employment.
He said the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences could be described in four key terms: think tank, science, institution and stronghold, and explained that it serves as a scientific research organization and a theoretical stronghold integrating science and education.
Zhen expressed hope that his visit would lay the groundwork for further collaboration between think tanks and enterprises. He also underlined the importance of strengthening partnerships between the academy and businesses as well as facilitating knowledge exchange.

Li emphasized the Council's extensive experience in intellectual property rights and commitment to helping enterprises with protection and dispute resolution. He introduced the Council's comprehensive database services, which provide enterprises with data analysis on market trends, regulatory developments and potential business opportunities, helping businesses make informed decisions and strategies. Li expressed interest in collaborating with the Chamber to strengthen intellectual property protection and provide its members access to the Council’s databases, supporting growth and exchange in both regions.
Li also highlighted the significance of the 3rd China International Supply Chain Expo, one of the primary purposes of his visit. He said the Council hopes to raise awareness among Hong Kong enterprises and encourage their participation in this important event. He invited Chamber members to attend the expo in Beijing, which acts as a platform for expanding international supply chain networks.
Li commended the significant representation of foreign and local enterprises within the Chamber and highlighted its long-standing close cooperation with the Council. He emphasized the Council’s neutral role in assisting foreign businesses operating in China, helping address their concerns and advocating for their needs. He also assured support for the Chamber’s development and collaboration, particularly in trade exhibitions, legal services for listings, APEC affairs and the application of smart databases.
