Chief Economist of the Department of Commerce of Jilin Province, Xu Dechen visited the Chamber

Xu Dechen, Chief Economist of the Department of Commerce of Jilin Province, visited the Chamber on 29 April. He was welcomed by Felix Lee, Chairman of the China Committee.

Xu briefed the Chamber on the upcoming visit to Hong Kong by the Secretary of the Jilin Provincial Committee of the CPC, the first in over a decade. He also invited Chamber members to attend the Jilin–Hong Kong Economic and Trade Cooperation and Changbai Mountain Ginseng Promotion Seminar next month.

In addition, Xu delivered a personal invitation to the Chamber for the 15th China–Northeast Asia Expo to further strengthen economic ties and exchanges between Jilin and Hong Kong.

Director of the Shanghai Commission of Commerce, Zhu Min visited the Chamber

Zhu Min, Director of the Shanghai Commission of Commerce, visited the Chamber on 25 April to exchange views on the evolving global environment and explore avenues for closer collaboration between Shanghai and Hong Kong.

During a meeting with Chamber CEO Patrick Yeung, Zhu stated that the purpose of the visit was to understand Chamber members' insights into the current international landscape. He hoped for deeper cooperation between the two cities by leveraging Hong Kong’s unique role as a channel to navigate global market challenges, including tariff-related issues.

Zhu also discussed Shanghai’s recent efforts to boost domestic consumption through events such as the Shanghai Food Festival, the Global Food Festival and Pet Fashion Week. He said China's vast and highly competitive market encourages rapid innovation and the swift emergence of new enterprises, which helps maintain strong product competitiveness.

Vice Mayor of Shaoguan Municipal People’s Government, Xiao Zhiyong visited the Chamber

Xiao Zhiyong, Vice Mayor of Shaoguan Municipal People’s Government, visited the Chamber on 24 April to gather feedback from Hong Kong businesses and explore opportunities for collaboration. During a meeting with Edmond Yew, Vice Chairman of the China Committee, Xiao said he hoped to attract more investment to Shaoguan through the Chamber.

Shaoguan is a cultural and industrial hub in northern Guangdong, known for its rich history, Zen traditions and Hakka culture. It also has a strong industrial base, particularly in steel and mining. It boasts 88 kinds of mineral resources, 22 of which rank first in Guangdong.

Xiao stated that the city has received approval to establish a data centre cluster as a national computing power hub node for the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, offering computing power support for the entire region. The authorities are focused on upgrading traditional industries while developing emerging sectors, such as new materials and digital infrastructure, and seeking opportunities for deeper cooperation with Hong Kong.

Department of Commerce, Hunan Province visited the Chamber

Liu Suyue, Deputy Director of the Department of Commerce, Hunan Province, visited the Chamber on 16 April. Edmond Yew, Vice Chairman of the China Committee, received the delegation.

Liu Suya pointed out that Hunan's population ranks eighth in the country, providing a solid foundation for market potential. Additionally, Hunan's strategic focus on rail transportation, particularly the development of high-speed rail, will further enhance the convenience of transportation within the province and promote economic growth.

Hunan’s industrial system is well-developed, encompassing both the biomedical sector and rapidly growing emerging industries, making it highly attractive for businesses. She noted that as the provincial capital, Changsha is home to many well-known brands, such as Chayan Yueshe, contributing to Hunan's consumption growth rate, ranking third in the nation.

She also invited members to participate in the Hunan-Hong Kong Investment and Financing Matching Meeting on 14 May, aiming to explore business opportunities together.

Chen Yong, Chairman of the Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region CPPCC Visited the Chamber

Chen Yong, Chairman of the Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region CPPCC, met with Chamber Vice Chairman PC Yu on 10 April to discuss further collaboration between Ningxia and Hong Kong.

Chen said a new Ningxia-Hong Kong Cooperation Advisory Committee had been established in collaboration with over 30 Hong Kong professionals, forming a platform for dialogue and cooperation. He also highlighted the success of the 2025 Ningxia-Hong Kong Economic and Trade Exchange Seminar on 9 April, where contracts worth around RMB 4.5 billion were signed. Emphasizing Hong Kong’s role as an important international gateway and “super-connector, Chen expressed appreciation for the Chamber’s strong influence as Hong Kong’s oldest business organization.

With Ningxia known for its industries such as wine, goji berries, dairy, cattle, and Tan sheep, Chen hoped to increase trade and market access in Hong Kong. He said Ningxia’s modern coal chemical sector leads the nation, with the Ningdong Energy and Chemical Base producing 4 million tons of coal-based oil annually.

The visit provided an opportunity to hear directly from Hong Kong business leaders and to explore potential partnerships to promote mutual growth and prosperity.

Chen Yong, Chairman of the Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region CPPCC, visited the Chamber on 10 April. He was received by Chamber Vice Chairman PC Yu.

Vice President of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, Zhen Zhanmin visited the Chamber

Zhen Zhanmin, Vice President of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, visited the Chamber on 31 March. Chamber Chairman Agnes Chan warmly welcomed his delegation.

The visit provided an opportunity to promote collaboration between think tanks and businesses. Zhen emphasized the vital role of entrepreneurs, noting that private enterprises in China contribute over 60% of the country’s GDP and account for more than 80% of employment.

He said the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences could be described in four key terms: think tank, science, institution and stronghold, and explained that it serves as a scientific research organization and a theoretical stronghold integrating science and education.

Zhen expressed hope that his visit would lay the groundwork for further collaboration between think tanks and enterprises. He also underlined the importance of strengthening partnerships between the academy and businesses as well as facilitating knowledge exchange.

Chief Representative of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade Representative Office in Hong Kong, Li Peng visited the Chamber

Li Peng, Chief Representative of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade Representative Office in Hong Kong, visited the Chamber on 25 March. Chamber Chairman Agnes Chan received the delegation.

Li emphasized the Council's extensive experience in intellectual property rights and commitment to helping enterprises with protection and dispute resolution. He introduced the Council's comprehensive database services, which provide enterprises with data analysis on market trends, regulatory developments and potential business opportunities, helping businesses make informed decisions and strategies. Li expressed interest in collaborating with the Chamber to strengthen intellectual property protection and provide its members access to the Council’s databases, supporting growth and exchange in both regions.

Li also highlighted the significance of the 3rd China International Supply Chain Expo, one of the primary purposes of his visit. He said the Council hopes to raise awareness among Hong Kong enterprises and encourage their participation in this important event. He invited Chamber members to attend the expo in Beijing, which acts as a platform for expanding international supply chain networks.

Li commended the significant representation of foreign and local enterprises within the Chamber and highlighted its long-standing close cooperation with the Council. He emphasized the Council’s neutral role in assisting foreign businesses operating in China, helping address their concerns and advocating for their needs. He also assured support for the Chamber’s development and collaboration, particularly in trade exhibitions, legal services for listings, APEC affairs and the application of smart databases.

Governor of Guangdong Wang Weizhong Visited

We were honoured to welcome the Governor of Guangdong, Wang Weizhong, to the Chamber today. The delegation was warmly welcomed by Chamber Chairman Agnes Chan, Vice Chairman PC Yu, HKGCC LegCo Representative Jeffrey Lam, General Committee members and Committee chairmen.

Governor Wang acknowledged Hong Kong’s significant contributions to Guangdong’s development, particularly in technology, talent and capital. He emphasized that both Hong Kong and Guangdong share a common goal of fostering growth in the Greater Bay Area and expressed gratitude for Hong Kong’s ongoing investment in the province. He also welcomed policy feedback from Chamber members, who shared their perspectives on cross-border cooperation in finance, investment, logistics, transportation, medical and insurance services, new energy and talent development.

Looking ahead, Wang hoped that the Chamber could help attract further investment to Guangdong and facilitate business expansion within the province.

Zheng Jianmin, Secretary of the Leading Party Group and Chairman of the CPPCC Dongguan Municipal Committee Visited

Zheng Jianmin, Secretary of the Leading Party Group and Chairman of the CPPCC Dongguan Municipal Committee, led a delegation to the Chamber on 19 March, where they were received by Vice Chairman PC Yu and General Committee member Emil Yu. Both parties engaged in in-depth discussions regarding economic cooperation and industrial development. Zheng Jianmin provided an overview of Dongguan's economic and social landscape, highlighting the city's strong connections with Hong Kong, where approximately 800,000 compatriots resided. He noted that while Dongguan’s core focus was on the real economy, the city had been actively positioning itself in emerging sectors, such as the low-altitude economy.

Zheng Wenzhi, Secretary of the Leading Party Group and President of the Dongguan CCPIT, further emphasized that Dongguan enterprises were actively expanding into emerging markets in East Asia and Central Asia, and were committed to promoting the internationalization of the retail sector. This included efforts to assist traditional Shanghai brands in exporting their products through Dongguan to global markets. He believed there was significant potential for cooperation between Dongguan and Hong Kong, particularly in terms of industrial chain integration, where Hong Kong's strengths in design and R&D could be combined with Dongguan's manufacturing capabilities to achieve product transformation and market expansion.
