The Peninsula Hong Kong in Kowloon opened its doors to our members on 2 December for an exclusive “Grande Dame” tour of its premises.
The hotel’s Archive Room transported members back to the mid-20th century through a fascinating collection of historical records and artefacts spanning nine decades. It included vintage silk-embroidered menus from its French fine-dining restaurant, Gaddi’s, featuring Chinese figures in traditional attire, and bespoke tableware created by renowned brands such as Bernardaud (France) and Steelite (United Kingdom). A highlight of the collection is a commemorative programme marking Hong Kong's return to Chinese sovereignty in 1997, complete with a pearl representing Hong Kong’s nickname, the “Pearl of the Orient.”
The tour also featured visits to the Peninsula Suite and signature restaurants, followed by a behind-the-scenes look at the hotel’s operations.
