It was a pleasure to welcome the Hon. Dato’ Sri Azalina Othman Said, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Law and Institutional Reform), Malaysia to the Chamber on 8 August.
She was accompanied by senior representatives from the Legal Affairs Division of the Prime Minister’s Department, Malaysia, and the Asian International Arbitration Centre (Malaysia).
During a meeting with Chamber Chairman Agnes Chan, Legal Committee Chairman Nick Chan and members, they explored areas of potential cooperation, especially with chambers, to promote the benefits of arbitration in business disputes. The Hon. Minister said the success of arbitration in Hong Kong is largely attributed to the business sector’s preference for arbitration over courts in resolving disputes, saving time and money.
She also discussed several initiatives Malaysia is currently undertaking, including human rights, sports and social media arbitration, as well as a proposal to establish a framework for arbitration for ASEAN businesses to facilitate international trade and dispute resolution.
