Steven serves as the Chief Executive and Partner at Baker & McKenzie, where he oversees the firm’s operations across eight countries in Asia. Previously, he held the position of Managing Partner for the Mainland China and Hong Kong offices and led the Asia Pacific Tax practice group that spans across twelve countries. Steven is a qualified solicitor in both Hong Kong and the United Kingdom.
His primary areas of expertise include tax advisory and litigation, estate planning, and regional tax matters within Hong Kong and Asia. Steven has been recognized as a Leading Lawyer in tax, private client services, and wealth management by notable publications such as Chambers Asia Pacific, the Citywealth Leaders List, and the Guide to the World's Leading Tax Advisers. In 2020, he was honored as the Asia Tax Litigation and Disputes Practice Leader of the Year by the International Tax Review during the Asia Tax Awards.
Steven began his academic journey at the University of Alberta, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science. He then obtained his LLB from Dalhousie University, followed by an LLM from New York University School of Law, with a focus on tax law.
His extensive expertise in tax law has led him to assume leadership roles in various organizations, including serving as a member of the Inland Revenue Board of Review and the Joint Liaison Committee on Taxation. He is currently the Chairman of the Revenue Law Committee of the Hong Kong Law Society.
