What's On

When the new Civil Code took effect on 1 January, it has established a new legal framework in Mainland China. The Code is a major milestone in the nation's legal development and will affect companies with operations in the Mainland.

The new Civil Code has not only codified scattered pieces of civil and commercial laws, but also introduced new provisions covering a wide range of legal aspects. Companies should familiarize themselves with the new legal framework to ensure that their business is in compliance. This may be particularly challenging for foreign investors.

To illustrate the implications of the Civil Code for foreign investors, HKGCC is pleased to have invited Dr Dennis Tang, Registered Foreign Lawyer (China), of ONC Lawyers, to speak at a webinar on 29 April. He will explain the status and content of the Civil Code, and share his insights on topics relevant to foreign investors, including the key amendments of the Civil Code regarding:

- Contracts
- Tort and Liability
- Property Law
- Succession
