Set up in 2004, according to the company's report, JD.com is both the leading e-commerce company and retailer in China, in terms of revenue. It is serving some 266.3 million active customers through its website, mobile app, and WeChat and QQ entry points. The B2C e-commerce platform offers a vast selection of products, from apparel and home furnishings to fresh food, which are delivered through its high-speed infrastructure. It provides a one-stop shopping experience for consumers not only in Mainland China, but also in Indonesia, Thailand, Russia, and the USA, amongst others.
JD.com has a zero-tolerance policy regarding counterfeit products and a strong focus on innovative development, being manifested in its big data application and analytics, unmanned convenience stores, unmanned warehouses, delivery drones, and JD Luxury Express delivery service. The company's successful growth and innovative solutions could serve as a reference for Hong Kong businesses.
As such, the Chamber's Retail and Tourism Committee is pleased to welcome Mr Ben Chuk, Senior Business Development Manager, JD.com, to speak at a Chamber luncheon roundtable on 14 March. He will discuss the unique positioning of JD.com in Mainland China and Southeast Asia, and will also share his insights into the development of e-commerce under the "fourth retail revolution."
The talk will also touch on the following:
- Smart retail -- including big data, delivery drones and personalized service -- and how it can help retailers understand and serve their customers better and improve efficiency
- How Hong Kong businesses can work with JD.com to reach the global market
Mr Chuk is experienced in assisting overseas merchants to penetrate the China market via cross-border e-commerce. He joined JD.com in 2015 and successfully brought in global brands including Nestlé, Lindt, Kjeldsens, Starbucks and Dr. Morita (森田藥粧) to JD Worldwide. Prior to joining JD.com, he held positions in business development, branding and category management in different industries.
