As with other metropolitan cities, Hong Kong has a serious food waste problem. To address this, the Government has come up with a number of measures, which include the establishment of a facility dubbed O · PARK1.
O · PARK1 is Hong Kong's first organic resources recovery centre located in Siu Ho Wan in North Lantau. The facility, which is capable of handling 200 tonnes of food waste per day, relies on anaerobic digestion technology to convert food waste into biogas (a source of renewable energy similar to natural gas) for electricity generation. Residual waste are rendered as compost for landscaping and agriculture use.
Members are invited to take part in a visit that the Chamber is organizing to O · PARK1 on 22 October 2019 when they will have the opportunity of understanding the workings of this unique facility and its approach to turning food waste into energy.
This visit is organised exclusively for HKGCC members. Due to limited places, priority will be given to corporate members, which be allocated up to two places each. Additional places will be subject to availability. The Chamber and hosting party reserve the right to reject any applications.
