As we enter 2026, understanding the shifting dynamics of U.S. policy is vital given its significant influence on the global economy.
At the Americas Committee meeting on 15 January, Will Denyer, Partner and Chief U.S. Economist at Gavekal, provided a detailed assessment of the key factors shaping the economic outlook. His analysis covered critical areas, including the Federal Reserve’s latest moves and the Supreme Court’s recent ruling on President Donald Trump’s tariff measures. Together with the Committee, he also examined the wider consequences of growing geopolitical tensions and their potential effects on international markets.
Special thanks to Committee Vice Chairman Simon Chan for hosting the session at his firm, Dorsey & Whitney LLP.

We had a lively discussion at the Asia, Africa & Middle East Committee meeting on 26 January, centred on Chairman Dewan Saiful Alam's presentation on the Chamber’s recent mission to Malaysia. Delegates who joined the three-day trip shared their observations and suggestions for developing business in the region. The mission opened doors to a wide range of opportunities, and some members have already started building their business portfolios in Malaysia.
During the meeting, measures were suggested to improve the committee’s outreach to the wider Chamber membership. Discussions included planning for upcoming missions and conducting a survey to gauge members’ latest business interests.

It was a pleasure to welcome Michael Mainelli, President of the London Chamber of Commerce & Industry (LCCI) and Chairman of Z/Yen Group, to the Chamber on 14 January.
During a meeting with Chairman Agnes Chan, CEO Patrick Yeung and Europe Committee Vice Chairmen Stratos Pourzitakis and Philipp Hanusch, Mainelli introduced LCCI’s work and briefly explained how the London-based commercial think-tank Z/Yen Group assessed the competitiveness of financial centres worldwide, such as Busan, Toyko and Ho Chi Minh City, through the Global Financial Centres Index.
Mainelli explored the potential of using common law as a bridge to connect the world and to promote Hong Kong as a premier contracting hub for China. Chan welcomed opportunities for collaboration and closer ties, from a potential MoU to inviting Mainelli to the Chamber’s 165th Anniversary Ball in late May.
