What does the future of seamless travel in Hong Kong look like?

Benson Kwok, Director of Immigration, provided insightful answers at our Town Hall Forum on 11 11 November. Explaining how the Immigration Department (ImmD)is deploying smart technologies to enhance travel convenience, he highlighted one of the most anticipated initiatives: the contactless clearance pilot at the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge Hong Kong Port, scheduled for the second quarter of 2026. Kwok said the ImmD would work closely with the Airport Authority Hong Kong to ensure the smooth operation of Terminal 2, supported by 137 immigration clearance counters and 60 e-channels.

He also pointed to the Quality Migrant Admission Scheme, one of the ImmD’s key programmes for attracting global talent, with seven-time snooker world champion Ronnie O’Sullivan as a notable example.

The forum, hosted by Wilson Kwong, Chairman of the Chamber’s Transport and Logistics Committee and General Committee Member, wrapped with Kwok addressing a wide range of questions, from strategies to streamline the visa process for foreign talent to the Department’s measures to leverage digital border management tools.
