Empowering young talent is essential to shaping Hong Kong’s future, and Victor Lam, Chairman of the Chamber’s Young Executives Club (YEC), is committed to helping emerging leaders connect with the business world and champion youth development.

Victor, Managing Director of Active Works Company Ltd, shared YEC’s plans and insights from his public service experience during the “Dialogue with the General Committee” session on 7 November.

“YEC has a unique and diverse membership of international talent and young professionals, which encourages intellectual exchange and peer learning,” he said. “We are exploring new networking opportunities, including the possibility of hosting a youth summit to bring students and entrepreneurs together.”

Victor also highlighted the Chamber’s initiatives to deepen student engagement. “In addition to the Pitch Perfect Programme, which has involved over 500 students to date, we recently launched the Student Associate Club to strengthen ties between students and the business community.”

Beyond his roles at the Chamber, Victor serves in various public service capacities, including the HKSAR Standing Committee on Civil Service Salaries and Conditions of Service, the Advisory Committee on Corruption, the Travel Industry Authority, the HKTDC Toys Advisory Committee and the Consumer Council.

He noted that the Consumer Council is increasingly focused on the digital marketplace and communication channels. “Elderly services and healthcare products are another key area,” he explained. “We aim to promote a safer and more transparent local consumption market by building a safer, more transparent environment.”

To support the development and growth of SMEs, the backbone of Hong Kong’s business sector, Victor advocated streamlining the BUD Fund application process. “In a fast-paced, competitive market, companies must act swiftly to seize opportunities. By voicing the concerns of the business community to the concerned authorities, we strive to help Hong Kong navigate these challenging times.”

Despite a challenging economic climate, Victor was optimistic about Hong Kong’s future. “With our strong education and financial systems, global connectivity and adaptability, I believe Hong Kong can emerge stronger and better,” he said.

He also pointed to the Government’s efforts to attract talent and visitors, noting that more large corporations and family businesses are setting up in the city. “To meet the needs of international talent, we must expand resources such as international schools, hospitals and housing across Hong Kong.”

Responding to a question about how to ensure a smooth succession transition in a family business, Victor emphasized the importance of open communication between experienced staff and the next generation of leaders. “We should recognize and appreciate the contributions of our predecessors and try our best to build on their strengths.”
