In a rapidly transforming global economy, fostering a culture of innovation is no longer an option – it’s a necessity. The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) Business School is leading the way in fostering an innovation-driven culture in Hong Kong.
Through the Corporate Innovation Index (CII) project, the Asia-Pacific Institute of Business (APIB) at CUHK Business School has created Hong Kong’s first comprehensive framework to measure and promote corporate innovation. With the support of its strategic partner since 2021, the Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce (HKGCC), the CII is enabling businesses to flourish in an increasingly competitive and digitalised global economy.
CII 2024: Key Milestones
Kick-off of the Second Index Term
The launch of the second term of the CII project in October 2023 marked a significant step forward. With officiating guests Wai-ming Lau, Assistant Commissioner for Innovation and Technology (Quality Services); Prof. Lin Zhou, Dean of CUHK Business School; HKGCC CEO Patrick Yeung; and Prof. Waiman Cheung, Associate Dean (Graduate Studies) and Executive Director of APIB at CUHK Business School, the event focused on empowering businesses to adapt to challenges and leverage opportunities in the digital era.
Open Forum and Pilot Study
Held at HKGCC, the Open Forum and Pilot Study brought together industry leaders, academics and SME representatives to refine the CII framework. The event highlighted the Chamber’s role as a neutral platform for collaboration, where businesses can share insights and co-create solutions for driving innovation.
CII Awards Presentation Ceremony 2024
CII proudly celebrated the achievements of top-ranked corporates and SMEs at the CII Awards 2024. The event highlighted excellence in innovation and provided a platform for awardees to share insights and best practices. HKGCC honoured both leading corporates and SMEs at the CII Awards Presentation Ceremony, which showcased the successes of companies at the forefront of innovation and allowed them to share their success stories, inspiring others to follow suit.
Corporate Innovation Seminar Series 2025
CUHK and HKGCC continue to empower businesses with actionable insights and practical tools for innovation. These seminars, developed by the APIB of the CUHK Business School and launched at HKGCC, are designed to help businesses of all sizes navigate challenges, foster resilience and accelerate their innovation journeys.
Way Forward: The Next Chapter with CII
As the CII prepares for its third phase, CUHK Business School and HKGCC are establishing the groundwork for an even more impactful future. This new chapter of the CII will signify an evolution of the project, integrating new tools, fresh insights, and enhanced collaboration to boost corporate innovation in Hong Kong.
The third CII will optimize the CII framework and measurement tools to evaluate companies’ innovation capabilities and achievements. Exceptional organisations will be acknowledged during the awards presentation ceremony.
Furthermore, leveraging three years of longitudinal data, we will offer long-term, comprehensive insights while sharing innovation benchmarks and best practices. The new dimensions introduced in this phase will effectively empower both corporations and SMEs to achieve groundbreaking advancements in innovation management, resource allocation and value creation. With CUHK and HKGCC leading the initiative, this next chapter will further bolster Hong Kong’s status as a regional innovation hub.
