With 2025 nearly upon us, it is the perfect opportunity to reflect on the past 12 months, during which the Chamber continued its steadfast efforts to drive progress and support the business community.
In the face of sluggish economic growth, we kept the momentum alive. Our advocacy efforts were robust as we provided proposals for the Budget and Policy Address and made our voices heard through various consultations and policy submissions. Your concerns and insights have shaped our recommendations to the Government, ensuring that we remain a strong voice for the business sector.
Our calendar was packed with nearly 400 activities and events throughout the year, from training courses and seminars to roundtables and site visits. Our special town hall forums, led by senior government officials, fostered open dialogue and strengthened connections within the community. We engaged in productive exchanges with Hong Kong and Mainland government officials, as well as Consuls General and country representatives.
The Chamber has proactively expanded its connections globally, regularly hosting representatives from chambers worldwide. We also undertook several missions in ASEAN, the Middle East and Mainland China to explore opportunities for business expansion and exchange.
The definitive highlight of our year was the HKGCC International Business Summit held last month. It brought together C-suite executives and industry leaders for discourse on the theme “Shifting Economic Centre of Gravity: Hong Kong’s Role,” examining how the world is tilting eastwards as Asia transforms into an economic powerhouse. Also last month, we were honoured to organize the annual Joint Business Community Luncheon, where the Chief Executive outlined his 2024 Policy Address to business icons and chambers of commerce.
I am happy to note the success of the “CEO 123 Tell Me More” series with prominent leaders from diverse sectors. Additionally, the “Dialogue with the General Committee” talks have facilitated meaningful interactions between members and Chamber leadership. Our receptions to welcome new members drew large crowds, creating a vibrant atmosphere for networking. We also enjoyed happy hours with international chambers, fostering camaraderie and collaboration.
A significant milestone was the Young Executives Club’s 10th anniversary. The gala celebration in September, featuring breathtaking ballet and musical performances, was truly a night to remember.
Last but not least, the Chamber continued to foster the development of Hong Kong’s youth through the Business Case Competition, the Business School Partnership Programme and the Pitch Perfect Programme, equipping university students with valuable skills for the corporate world.
As 2024 comes to a close, I sincerely hope you’ve found value in the Chamber’s services and are excited to renew your membership to unlock even more benefits. Thank you for your support, engagement and dedication to making Hong Kong a thriving business hub. I wish you all a prosperous 2025!
