Ambassador Manuel Innocencio de Lacerda Santos Jr., Consul General of Brazil, and his Consul Ivan Carlo Padre Seixas, paid a visit to the Chamber on 24 August, where they were welcomed by CEO Patrick Yeung and Americas Committee Vice Chairmen Mark Michelson and Susana Munoz Enriquez.
At the meeting, the two sides discussed a wide range of topics from trade to tourism to football. The Consul General explained that China was by far Brazil’s most important trading partner, accounting for around 26% of its exports. However, as 80% of that total is limited to a handful of commodities, he hopes to diversify exports – including to Hong Kong – by increasing awareness of the country’s diversity and expertise in various sectors. As part of this, a renowned Brazilian chef will be flying to Macao in October to showcase the country’s cuisine and produce. He also said there are plans to establish of a Brazilian Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong.
