Modern Terminals has been continuously aiming for service excellence ever since it opened Hong Kong's first purpose-built container terminal in September 1972. Apart from optimizing its business in Hong Kong Port, it has also been actively expanding into Mainland China in recent years. Modern Terminals holds the majority shares in and operates Da Chan Bay Terminals in the Pearl River Delta (PRD).

Being a responsible corporate citizen, Modern Terminals has been awarded the 10 Years Plus Caring Company Logo. In 2010, the company became the first local terminal operator honoured by Hong Kong Quality Assurance Agency’s (HKQAA) CSR Advocate Mark in recognition of its overall corporate social responsibility (CSR) performance. Business Activities

Modern Terminals’ Hong Kong business unit owns and operates Terminals 1, 2, 5 and 9 (South) of Kwai Tsing container terminals in Hong Kong, and has an annual capacity of over 7 million TEUs.

Modern Terminals has a workforce of about 1,000 employees in Hong Kong and operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Occupying 92.61 hectares, Modern Terminals has a stacking capacity of 77,000 TEUs and an alongside depth of 16.5 metres. There are 30 Quayside Gantry Cranes and 101 Rubber-tyred Gantry Cranes (RTGs). There is also a 12-storey warehouse building on site providing 132,000 square metres storage facilities.
