Vote for Progress. Aid for Recovery. Reform for All.

For Immediate Release

The Hong Kong business community is deeply saddened by the devastating fire at Wang Fuk Court in Tai Po. Our heartfelt condolences go to the victims and their families affected by this tragedy. In response to the call from the HKSAR Government and to provide comprehensive support to the residents affected by the Wang Fuk Court fire during this challenging period, the "Thanks a Million" Grand Lucky Draw, originally organized by The Chinese General Chamber of Commerce Hong Kong, The Chinese Manufacturers' Association of Hong Kong, The Federation of Hong Kong Industries, The Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce, The Hong Kong Chinese Enterprises Association, and The Hong Kong Chinese Importers' & Exporters' Association, to thank citizens for voting in the Legislative Council election, will be canceled. With the full support of the sponsors, the Six Major Chambers will convert all gifts intended for the lucky draw into donations and supplies to aid the affected residents and their families, with a total value close to HK$68 million.

This includes a total donation of HK$12.07 million from Henderson Land Group through the Lee Shau Kee Foundation, a donation of HK$12.07 million from K. Wah Group, a donation of HK$10 million each from Chow Tai Fook Jewellery and JD.com, Inc., a donation of HK$8.65 million from Sino Group, a donation of HK$5 million from PCCW-HKT, as well as supplies worth HK$3.62 million from China Taiping Charitable Foundation Limited, worth HK$3.5 million from Guangdong Holdings Limited and worth HK$3 million from Lee & Man Paper Manufacturing Limited respectively.

While the "Thanks a Million" Grand Lucky Draw initiative was initially launched to express gratitude to the voters for their participation in building a better Hong Kong, the recent fire at Wang Fuk Court has led to casualties and left many residents homeless overnight, bringing profound grief to the entire city. The Six Major Chambers took immediate action and mobilized their members and associated enterprises to contribute actively through donations and supplies, with a cumulative total exceeding 500 million Hong Kong dollars. We believe that this effort will bring together the strengths of all parties, embody the spirit of solidarity and mutual support, and help the affected residents feel the warmth and care extended by the business community and society.

The Six Major Chambers would also like to extend their sincere appreciation to Sino Group, Sun Hung Kai Properties and MTR Corporation for their initial provision of venues, manpower, and material resources in support of the lucky draw. Moving forward, we remain committed to collaborating with all sectors of society to address challenges together, contributing to Hong Kong's economic and social recovery and development. We stand united with all citizens of Hong Kong during this difficult time.

We also call on Hong Kong citizens to actively participate in the December 7 Legislative Council election, so that the new council can assume its duties as soon as possible and work with the government, the business community, and other stakeholders to focus on post-disaster relief, reconstruction and related efforts.
