The Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce (HKGCC) echoes Financial Secretary Paul Chan’s comments today that Hong Kong remains an outstanding business and financial hub for companies from around the world.
While ongoing geopolitical challenges, economic transformation and changing consumer preferences are affecting businesses, especially in the retail and food & beverage sectors, Hong Kong’s core strengths and advantages remain sound.
This is borne out in globally respected surveys, where Hong Kong consistently ranks among the world’s freest, most open and competitive business hubs. In HKGCC’s recent “Asian Cities Internationality Index,” local and international business executives surveyed from around the world ranked Hong Kong first overall, among 11 Asian cities, especially in the business and economy dimension.
The Index offers valuable insights, including the need for Hong Kong to bolster its international standing and raise greater awareness of its business-friendly environment. Respondents cited the rule of law, business-friendly environment and competitiveness as some of the city’s key draws.
The “Report on Hong Kong’s Business Environment,” released today, reiterates these findings and Hong Kong’s unique strengths. “Confidence-building measures and engaging with businesspeople from around the world are essential to reinforce our status as a trusted global hub,” said HKGCC Chairman Agnes Chan.
“HKGCC will continue to spell out the many benefits and certainty – including explaining the ‘One Country, Two Systems’ principle – that Hong Kong can offer to international businesses during our meetings with incoming delegations and our connections overseas,” she added.
