HKSAR Chief Executive John Lee called on the Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce (HKGCC) today (4 September) to exchange views with the Chamber leadership on Hong Kong’s economic development and issues covering various sectors.
During the private meeting hosted by Chairman Agnes Chan, the Chief Executive was presented with the Chamber’s submission for the 2024 Policy Address. Members of the General Committee and Chamber Council also shared highlights from the submission, the result of several months of collaboration with members and committees to develop a comprehensive set of proposals on revitalizing the economy, promoting growth and development, and improving people’s livelihood.
The Chamber’s recommendations include urgent measures to assist struggling small and medium-sized enterprises, and suggestions on expanding the city’s workforce. They also address other important issues such as land and housing shortages, the need to further enhance vital sectors like financial services, trade, logistics and transport, tourism, innovation and technology, and accelerating the transformation of Hong Kong into a liveable, green and smart metropolis.
With the current economic landscape presenting numerous challenges, the primary focus should be rebuilding confidence and improving the business environment to ensure a stable future. The meeting with the Chief Executive underlined the Chamber’s dedication to advancing constructive dialogue and concrete action on Hong Kong’s economic growth. As the “Voice of Business” in Hong Kong, HKGCC remains dedicated to representing and advocating for the business community, contributing to our city’s sustainable development and prosperity.
