HKGCC Welcomes WTO’s Ruling on ‘Made in Hong Kong’ Labelling

For Immediate Release

The Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce (HKGCC) welcomes the World Trade Organization’s ruling that the United States broke global trade rules requiring Hong Kong goods to be relabeled ‘Made in China.’

The Chamber urges the U.S. to respect Hong Kong’s independent customs status and the rules-based international trade system which complies with the WTO.

Hong Kong is a founding member of the WTO and was a separate contracting party to its predecessor the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade (GATT) since 1986. Its views and contributions to the world trade body have long been admired and respected by all WTO members.
