Seven university students battled through the final stages of the Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce’s (HKGCC) Pitch Perfect Programme last night (30 May) to win HKGCC Student Membership for one year which gives them the opportunity to further their careers, and cash prizes.

Seven winners were awarded a cash prize of HK$8,000, while the overall champion has the honour of being a Chamber Student Ambassador, and also received an additional HK$10,000 in cash. The champion also earned the chance to spend a day job shadowing Eric Fok, Vice President of Fok Ying Tung Group and Vice Chairman of Hong Kong Football Association, to gain valuable on-the-job knowledge about the corporate environment.

“We were very impressed by the abilities of all of the students who participated in the programme throughout the various stages and hope that the advice they received was not only helpful for this competition, but will also be valuable when they venture out into the world of work,” said Fok.

The programme was launched on 15 September 2021 by HKGCC’s Young Executives Club (YEC) with the support of seven sponsor companies -- Cathay Pacific Airways Ltd, Chevalier International Holdings Ltd, Lan Kwai Fong Holdings Ltd, Megasoft Ltd, MTR Corporation Ltd, NEC Hong Kong Ltd and Pan Asian Mortgage Co Ltd – and support from the Home Affairs Bureau.

The programme ran for five months over four stages to give nearly 100 students from 11 local universities the opportunity to take part in training courses, company visits and mentorships to help them develop essential workplace skills. These activities culminated in the semi-final and final on 30 May, where students underwent hypothetical job interviews with representatives from the sponsor companies and the Chamber leadership.

YEC Vice Chairman Olivia Kung thanked the students for their commitment throughout the programme, especially amid the changing Covid restrictions. “From over 100 applicants to seven winners, to one overall champion, the standard of entries was excellent,” she said. “All those who entered were outstanding I’m sure the judges had a difficult job deciding on the winners.”

“We sincerely hope that all students gained valuable insights from participating in the programme and that they will turn out to be future business leaders in Hong Kong,” concluded Fok.
