Betty Yuen, Group Director, CLP Holdings Ltd, has been elected Chairman of the Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce (HKGCC) for the coming year, taking over from Peter Wong who retired from the chairmanship after serving for two years.
Upon being elected, Yuen said: “I am truly honoured to be elected as the new Chairman of HKGCC. The position comes with a great deal of responsibility, especially during the very challenging economic environment. However, with the fifth wave of Covid being contained and social-distancing restrictions being eased, we will be working towards helping Hong Kong’s economy recover and reinforcing our global competitiveness.”
Outgoing Peter Wong, Chairman of the Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation Limited, thanked members for their support and trust over the past two years. He said the Chamber had provided constructive proposals to the Government during his two-year term on enhancing Hong Kong’s competitiveness and helping businesses survive the pandemic.
The election was held at the inaugural meeting of the new General Committee immediately after the HKGCC’s Annual General Meeting on the evening of 13 May. Agnes Chan, Managing Partner, Hong Kong & Macau, EY, was elected as Deputy Chairman.
Victor Li, Chairman and Group Co-Managing Director, CK Hutchison Holdings Ltd, and Douglas Woo, Chairman & Managing Director, Wheelock and Co Ltd, were re-elected as Vice Chairmen, while Guy Bradley, Chairman, John Swire & Sons (HK) Ltd, was elected as Vice Chairman.
At the Annual General Meeting, members elected a total of six members to fill the seats on the General Committee – the governing body of the Chamber – who were required to step down this year. Three of them were re-elected, respectively: Agnes Chan, Managing Partner, Hong Kong & Macau, EY; Douglas Woo, Chairman & Managing Director, Wheelock and Co Ltd; and Emil Yu, General Manager, Keystone Electric Wire & Cable Co Ltd.
Eric Fok, Vice President, Yau Wing Co Ltd; Eric Ma, Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer, NWS Holdings Ltd; and Roy Ng, Chairman & CEO, Star Lite (HK) Ltd; were newly elected as General Committee members.
