In response to a speech yesterday by Xia Baolong, Director of the Hong Kong-Macao Office, on the principle of “patriots ruling Hong Kong,” HKGCC Legco Representative Hon Jeffrey Lam agreed it makes sense. This should steer the governance of Hong Kong under the spirit of “Hong Kong people running Hong Kong and maintaining our high degree of autonomy.” The principle is in alignment with pledges by people taking up public office around the world in declaring loyalty to their respective states.
"One country, two systems" has been the cornerstone of Hong Kong's prosperity and stability. Hong Kong people ruling Hong Kong under a high degree of autonomy embodies the spirit of "one country, two systems." We believe that Hong Kong is totally capable of implementing "one country, two systems" and maintaining constitutional order.
