HKGCC Urges Companies to Give Employees Time to Get Vaccinated
vaccination program

For Immediate Release

The Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce welcomes the Government’s announcement today which lays out details of the city’s mass vaccination drive starting next week.

HKGCC believes the sooner the programme starts the sooner life will be able to return to normal, as it is a crucial step in allowing the resumption of regular business operations, as well as cross-border travel.

“The vaccination programme is a vital step in lifting domestic restrictions and helping us to reconnect to the international economy as it starts to recover,” said HKGCC Chairman Peter Wong. “We encourage our members to assist their employees to find the time to be vaccinated as soon as their vaccine of choice becomes available. The faster we can reach a critical level of immunity, the faster life will return to normal.”

HKGCC’s members employ around 1 million people, or about one-third of the local workforce.

The Chamber agrees that vulnerable groups and frontline workers be given priority to receive the jabs, as has been the case in other countries around the world, and hopes that citizens volunteer to sign up to the registration system to help the vaccination drive go smoothly. Once the vaccination drive has started, we look forward to the Government considering further relaxation of the existing social distancing measures to allow domestic businesses to resume normal operations as soon as possible.
