Bill Could Undermine Global Confidence in Hong Kong

For Immediate Release

Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce (HKGCC) expresses concern about United States President Donald Trump’s decision to sign the Hong Kong Human Rights and Democracy Act of 2019.

Commenting on the signing, HKGCC Chairman Aron Harilela said: “It is regrettable that Hong Kong is being used as a pawn in the U.S.-China trade war. The signing of the bill will undermine the international business community’s confidence in Hong Kong and make investors think twice about establishing a presence here.”

He added that Hong Kong’s many advantages, including its rule of law, independent judiciary, expertise and being the world’s freest economy for 25 consecutive years, will dispel any doubts about Hong Kong and our autonomy.
