General Committee statement regarding the appointment of the new CEO

In response to press enquiries, the General Committee of the Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce stressed today that the appointment of Miss Shirley Yuen as its CEO had been recommended by the Chairman’s Committee and approved by the General Committee at one of its formal meetings.  Similarly, the step-down of Mr. Alex Fong had been officially approved by the Chairman’s Committee and General Committee.

The Chairman’s Committee, comprising Mr Anthony Wu, Sir C K Chow, Mr He Guangbei, Mr Victor Li, Mr Y K Pang, and the Hon Jeffrey Lam, after having interviewed Miss Yuen, unanimously agreed to recommend her to the General Committee for appointment.  An official General Committee meeting was then held on 2 August to discuss the subject, and the appointment of Miss Yuen was approved by a majority.

HKGCC Chairman Anthony Wu clarified, “The appointment of Miss Yuen as Chamber CEO is based on her ability and experience.”

With her vast experience and expertise in public policy and international trade, the General Committee of the Chamber reiterated that it has every confidence in Miss Yuen’s ability to provide strong leadership to the Chamber Secretariat, and to help the Chamber better serve the needs and promote the interests of members as well as the entire business community.

The General Committee comprises Mr Anthony Wu, Sir C K Chow, Mr He Guangbei, Mr Victor Li, Mr Y K Pang, the Hon Jeffrey Lam, Mr Nicholas Brooke, Dr Christopher Cheng, Mr Oscar Chow, Mr Manohar Chugh, Dr Fu Yu Ning, Dr Aron Harilela, Mr Stanley Hui, Dr Raymond Kwok, Mr Ronald Lee, Mr David Lie, Mr Stephen Ng, Mr Christopher Pratt, Mr James Tien,Mr Peter Wong, Mr K K Yeung, Mr Pang-Chun Yu, Mr Andrew Yuen, Mrs Betty Yuen, and Dr Allan Zeman.
