I would like to extend my heartfelt congratulations to Jacob Kam on his election as Chairman of the HKGCC. As the Chamber celebrates its 165th anniversary, the Secretariat is fully committed to supporting his leadership as we build on our strong foundations, strengthen our role as the Voice of Business, and help our members seize new opportunities.
The Chamber’s strength has always been its ability to connect markets, people, and ideas. In an increasingly complex global environment, this role is more important than ever. As businesses navigate geopolitical uncertainty, technological disruption, and evolving economic trends, Hong Kong remains uniquely positioned to create opportunities through its robust international networks and longstanding ties with the Chinese Mainland.
As a “Super Connector” and “Super Value-Adder,” Hong Kong serves as a vital bridge between the Chinese Mainland and the rest of the world. To help businesses forge meaningful partnerships, the Chamber is actively expanding its international engagements. Recently, we strengthened ties with Central Asia by signing key Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with the National Chamber of Entrepreneurs of Kazakhstan and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Uzbekistan. These initiatives mark a significant step in expanding Hong Kong’s international network, creating new pathways for companies to access emerging markets under the Belt and Road Initiative.
The Chamber is also organising a major ASEAN delegation this September to explore opportunities for Hong Kong businesses and our members. On the policy front, we are actively preparing our strategic submission for Hong Kong’s Five-Year Plan to ensure the voice of our business community helps shape this vital blueprint. Alongside this advocacy, we are delivering ongoing programmes to champion innovation and ‘AI+’ development – such as our highly regarded INSEAD executive AI training and a series of AI training initiatives. Looking ahead, our calendar is packed with opportunities, including our Silver Economy Summit in October, which will spotlight innovations driven by our growing senior demographic. Finally, we will close out the year with our signature International Business Summit in December, uniting top experts to guide us through shifting global trends.
The business landscape is evolving rapidly, but so are we. By leveraging our collective strengths, embracing innovation, and expanding our global footprint, I am confident that we will continue to drive prosperity for our members and for Hong Kong. Let us embark on this exciting new chapter together.
