Igniting Strategic Growth
The release of China’s 15th Five-Year Plan marks the beginning of a new policy cycle that will shape the country’s economic trajectory in the decades ahead. As a national blueprint, the Plan’s themes – including innovation, green development, advanced manufacturing and global connectivity – also create strategic opportunities for businesses engaging with the Chinese Mainland.

For the HKGCC, this moment presents both a responsibility and an opportunity. As Hong Kong’s oldest and most dynamic business organization, our strength lies in connecting global companies, facilitating cross-border dialogue and interpreting major developments through an international business lens.

The 15th Five-Year Plan offers a timely platform to reaffirm and boost this positioning. We aim to serve as a credible interpreter of the Plan for our members via a sustained approach. This means helping businesses understand the direction behind the Central Government’s priorities for shaping industries, adjusting regulatory environments and opening doors across sectors such as finance, logistics, technology and professional services. By curating and translating these broad national strategies into practical considerations, the Chamber can help members navigate a rapidly evolving landscape.

Equally important is our role as an international connector. Hong Kong remains uniquely placed as a bridge between China and the world. The Chamber intends to leverage this position to facilitate meaningful interactions among business communities in Hong Kong, the Chinese Mainland and overseas, driving informed discussion and exchanges aligned with the Plan’s focus areas. In an era dominated by artificial intelligence, person-to-person exchanges and thought leadership grounded in experience remain essential to business insights, ensuring that technology is complemented by human judgement and perspective.

This year also marks the Chamber’s 165th anniversary, a milestone that highlights our storied history and ongoing evolution to meet the needs of Hong Kong’s business community. This month, we reopened our newly refurbished headquarters, a significant investment aimed at supporting deeper member engagement.

The revitalized office stands as a symbol of renewal at a time when the Chamber is expanding its strategic focus. Designed with both tradition and innovation in mind, it provides a modern space for our members and partners to convene and exchange insights. Crucially, it also enables us to deliver a high-quality programme of events, from roundtable discussions to knowledge-sharing seminars and training courses.

As we work towards these goals, I believe that the expertise and active contributions of our members and industry leaders are vital to achieving success. By utilizing our collective strengths, we can amplify the “Voice of Business” and help to shape Hong Kong’s future growth as a leading global financial centre.
