As we begin 2026, I wish the Chamber and its members a happy new year and every success in their endeavours. In my new role as a LegCo member, acting as a bridge between the business community and the Government, I am firmly committed to my primary mission and duty: representing the voice of business with dedication and clarity.
Since joining HKGCC 13 years ago, I have had the privilege of serving on several committees. The Chamber’s extensive and diverse network has broadened my connections and horizons, while fostering close, enduring relationships with fellow business leaders. My tenure as Chairman and Vice Chairman of the Asia, Africa & Middle East Committee from 2018 to 2024 was particularly invaluable. It deepened my understanding of international markets and sharpened my appreciation of Hong Kong’s unique strengths, competitive edges and strategic positioning, while also highlighting the global challenges confronting Hong Kong companies.
Coming from a modest background, I entered the workforce immediately after secondary school amid the Asian Financial Crisis, then completed my bachelor’s degree through part-time study. Steering my small trading business through the impact of economic cycles, the Covid-19 pandemic and tariff wars has taught me how to build resilience and maintain optimism. Most importantly, as an SME owner striving for success, I deeply empathise with the operational pressures and uncertainties that my fellow entrepreneurs face.
Throughout the past decade, I have actively championed and pursued opportunities for global expansion by leading Chamber delegations abroad to explore emerging markets. These experiences have reinforced my conviction that Hong Kong businesses must embrace a global perspective, learn from the strengths of international markets and showcase our agility, competitiveness and innovative spirit.
Over the next four years, I will closely monitor and follow up on key issues shaping the business community, particularly business upgrading and transformation, the advancement of I&T and AI-driven industries, and the development of the Northern Metropolis. I firmly believe that pragmatic, achievable policy recommendations can help businesses achieve sustainable growth amid an ever-changing environment while injecting fresh momentum into the economy. I will continue to listen to our committees and members with an open-minded and humble attitude, moving forward in partnership with the business community.
In the journey ahead, I will work hand in hand with the Chamber to cultivate a more business-friendly and sustainable environment, enabling Hong Kong enterprises to navigate challenges with confidence, achieve breakthroughs and seize opportunities to thrive.
