Broadening Our ASEAN Reach

The Chamber will lead a three-day business mission to Malaysia later this month, dovetailing with the Government’s broader agenda to expand Hong Kong’s global footprint and deepen its links with diverse economies.

In an era marked by shifting trade tariffs, reconfigured supply chains and geopolitical uncertainties, such outreach has become increasingly vital for businesses seeking resilience and diversification. The Chamber’s delegation to Kuala Lumpur will focus on deepening trade and economic ties while exploring growth and collaboration in a range of sectors, from finance to the digital economy and the halal market.

The trip will build on our previous outreach to other ASEAN economies, reinforcing a strategic pattern of engagement across Southeast Asia. These visits laid the groundwork for deeper regional connectivity, enabling Hong Kong businesses to better understand local market dynamics, regulatory frameworks and partnership opportunities in fast-growing sectors.

Malaysia’s economy is projected to grow between 4% and 4.8% in 2025, driven by strong performance across key sectors. As a recognized global halal hub renowned for its halal food imports and exports, and with a diversified economic base, the country presents compelling opportunities for Hong Kong businesses looking to expand, innovate and forge strategic partnerships.

With halal products and Islamic financial services gaining traction worldwide, Hong Kong is aligning its strengths, including world-class financial infrastructure, international standards and regulatory expertise, to support Islamic finance, halal certification and supply chain integration. These areas not only offer commercial potential but also reinforce Hong Kong’s credibility in serving culturally diverse markets.

The Chamber’s mission to Kuala Lumpur will include exchanges with local chambers of commerce, trade organizations and various local enterprises. Additionally, networking events and meetings with government officials will provide meaningful insights into the country’s market dynamics and policies.

Furthermore, the trip builds on the Chamber’s sustained efforts to strengthen its connections with Islamic nations. In recent years, we have signed Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with counterparts in Pakistan, Kazakhstan, Indonesia, Saudi Arabia, Morocco, Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain, and Ajman, UAE, among others. These agreements have laid the foundation for knowledge-sharing and deeper collaboration between business communities as Hong Kong solidifies its position as a valued partner in the Asia-Pacific region.

Last but not least, the Chamber’s international outreach initiatives cultivate enduring relationships and strategic alliances, exemplifying Hong Kong’s role as a global super-connector and a bridge to the Chinese Mainland.

By emphasizing engagement and sharing good stories about Hong Kong, the Chamber strives to empower the business community to explore new opportunities and navigate new frontiers with confidence.
