How can Hong Kong’s business community stay ahead in an ever-evolving China? To bridge knowledge gaps and explore the nation’s latest economic and technological advancements, the Chamber organized a transformative three-day China National Studies Programme at Peking University from 25-27 June. Blending theory with practice, the programme offered deep insights into national policies while broadening participants’ strategic horizons.

At the opening ceremony, Zhou Jing, Deputy Director of Peking University’s Office of Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan Affairs, applauded the Chamber’s 160-year legacy in fostering Hong Kong’s prosperity. She highlighted the shared mission between Peking University and Hong Kong’s business leaders – serving the nation and society – while underscoring Hong Kong’s irreplaceable role under “One Country, Two Systems.” Zhou urged participants to harness this learning opportunity to unlock new avenues for collaboration in China’s high-quality development and mutual benefits.

Five renowned professors from Peking University delivered thought-provoking lectures on critical topics, from China’s diplomatic strategy and macroeconomic trends to the spirit of the “Two Sessions” and China’s prowess in technological innovation. Another key topic was Hong Kong’s prospects in the Greater Bay Area, highlighting the city’s distinctive role and potential in driving regional integration.

Also on the agenda were Sino-U.S. relations and international diplomacy, breakthroughs in science and technology, and the transformative influence of China’s new quality productive forces in promoting transformation and growth.

One session decoded the domestic financial landscape and global financial trends, encompassing the stock market, foreign exchange market and digital economy, enabling participants to grasp global macroeconomic dynamics and optimize asset allocation strategies.

Beyond the classroom, participants visited the Museum of the Communist Party of China, the Palace Museum and the Summer Palace, immersive experiences that connected participants with the nation’s storied history and rich culture.

At the closing ceremony, Edmond Yue, the Chamber’s Programme Representative and General Committee member, reflected on the journey.

“This programme has been both enriching and inspiring,” he said. “It is impressive to note China’s rapid progress in economic, social, political and cultural aspects.”

He emphasized that the Hong Kong business community should proactively prepare to capitalize on the numerous opportunities presented by national development, thereby helping Hong Kong better align with the national development framework and promoting high-quality, sustainable growth across various industries.

The Chamber remains dedicated to consistently promoting such exchanges, ensuring Hong Kong continues to flourish as a vibrant hub within the nation’s development plan.
