Xiao Zhiyong, Vice Mayor of the Shaoguan Municipal People’s Government, visited the Chamber on 24 April to gather feedback from Hong Kong businesses and explore opportunities for collaboration.
During a meeting with Edmond Yew, Vice Chairman of the China Committee, Xiao said he hoped Shaoguan would attract more investment through the Chamber.
Shaoguan is a cultural and industrial hub in northern Guangdong, renowned for its rich history, Zen traditions and Hakka culture. It has a robust industrial base, particularly in steel and mining, boasting 88 types of mineral resources, 22 of which rank first in Guangdong.
Xiao noted that the city has received approval to establish a data centre cluster as a national computing power hub node for the Greater Bay Area, providing computing power support for the entire region. The authorities are focused on upgrading traditional industries while developing emerging sectors such as new materials and digital infrastructure.

Zhu Min, Director of the Shanghai Commission of Commerce, met with Chamber CEO Patrick Yeung on 25 April to discuss the evolving global environment and explore avenues for cooperation between Shanghai and Hong Kong.
Zhu also expressed interest in Chamber members’ insights into the current international landscape. He hoped for deeper cooperation between the two cities by leveraging Hong Kong’s unique role as a channel to navigate global market challenges, including tariff-related issues.
Discussing Shanghai’s efforts to boost domestic consumption through events such as the Shanghai Food Festival, the Global Food Festival and Pet Fashion Week, he said China’s vast and competitive market encourages innovation and new enterprises, which helps maintain strong product competitiveness.

Xu Dechen, Chief Economist of the Department of Commerce, Jilin Province, visited the Chamber on 29 April. He was welcomed by Felix Lee, Chairman of the China Committee.
Xu briefed members on the upcoming visit to Hong Kong by the Secretary of the Jilin Provincial Committee of the CPC, the first in over a decade. He invited Chamber members to attend the Jilin–Hong Kong Economic and Trade Cooperation and Changbai Mountain Ginseng Promotion Seminar next month.
He also formally invited the Chamber to the 15th China-Northeast Asia Expo to strengthen economic ties and promote exchanges between Jilin and Hong Kong.

Experts from Deloitte China shared their expertise on the evolving landscape of U.S. rules of origin during a roundtable luncheon on 29 April.
Dolly Zhang, Partner, Indirect Tax, Customs and Global Trade Consulting and Shelly Ma, Director, Global Trade Advisory, unpacked the growing impact of rules of origin on global supply chains. With China facing tariffs amid ongoing trade tensions, understanding the origin of goods has become critical for businesses navigating compliance and managing cross-border operations.
Moderated by Felix Lee, Chairman of the China Committee, the session included a brief overview of the U.S.’s economic and trade policies, the impact of retaliatory tariffs on U.S. processing trade and bonded logistics, and the classification and application of rules of origin for goods exported to the U.S.

On behalf of the HKGCC, Felix Lee, Chairman of the China Committee, signed an MoU with Hunan’s Department of Commerce on 14 May.
The agreement marks an important step toward deepening economic and trade cooperation between the chamber and the Hunan government. Mao Weiming, Governor of the People’s Government of Hunan Province, attended the event.

Felix Lee, Chairman of the China Committee, attended a conference on “Promoting Alignment of Rules and Mechanisms between Qianhai and Hong Kong” on 7 May. 

The event aimed to foster deeper regulatory and institutional alignment between the Qianhai-Hong Kong Modern Service Industry Cooperation Zone and Hong Kong.

The event showcased Jilin’s signature industries, including ginseng production, and promoted exchanges among enterprises and professionals from Jilin and Hong Kong. It also aimed to deepen economic and trade cooperation, explore new opportunities and jointly pursue high-quality development.

 

General Committee member Emil Yu attended the Symposium for Key Representatives from Hong Kong and Macao on 19 May. Wang Yuyan, Deputy Secretary of the Shandong Provincial Party Committee, delivered the key address. The event was hosted by the Federation of Hong Kong Shan Dong Community Organizations Limited. 

 

Neo Wang, Vice Chairman of the China Committee, attended the Qingdao-Hong Kong Economic and Trade Cooperation Exchange Conference on 19 May. Geng Tao, Member of the Standing Committee of Qingdao Municipal Party Committee and Deputy Mayor, delivered the keynote speech.

 

HKGCC CEO Patrick Yeung represented the Chamber at the opening ceremony of Shandong Week 2025 and the Shandong-Hong Kong Cooperation High-Quality Development Promotion Conference on 20 May. The event was held in Hong Kong and hosted by Wang Yuyan, Deputy Secretary of the Shandong Provincial Party Committee. 

On the same day, Chamber Vice Chairman PC Yu attended the Shandong-Hong Kong Economic and Trade Cooperation Exchange Dinner.
