Dongguan’s high-tech sector is flourishing, making it one of the fastest-evolving innovation hubs in the Greater Bay Area (GBA). Against this backdrop, Felix Lee, Chairman of the China Committee, led a delegation to the city on 16 May to explore cutting-edge development opportunities and strengthen collaboration between Hong Kong’s professional services sector and Dongguan’s dynamic industries.
The visit focused on Dongguan’s rapidly expanding innovation and technology (I&T) platforms and key industrial projects, aiming to foster win-win partnerships that drive economic growth across the GBA. Delegates toured several major sites to gain insights into the city’s tech ecosystem, sustainability initiatives and talent policies.
At the Binhaiwan Exhibition Center, interactive multimedia displays showcased the district’s urban development blueprint and core industries. Kexing Science Park impressed members with its integrated life science ecosystem, which provides R&D, production, housing and commercial facilities. Meanwhile, OPPO’s Global Computing Power Centre – a flagship of Dongguan’s digital economy – highlighted its role in providing robust computing solutions for businesses.
Members also visited the Binhai Bay Hong Kong Macao Youth Home Innovation and Entrepreneurship Base, which attracts and nurtures young entrepreneurs from Hong Kong and Macao through policy support, platform development and resource integration, fostering collaboration among the region’s youth.
Luo Bin, Secretary of the Binhaiwan Bay Area Party Working Committee, told members that what they had seen represented only one-fifth of Binhaiwan’s potential. “We’re eager to deepen collaboration with Hong Kong, particularly in innovation and talent, to propel the GBA’s industrial upgrade,” he explained.
Huawei’s Songshan Lake Campus offered a glimpse into smart park technologies, from automated patrol systems to digital management solutions.
The trip ended with the Dongguan-Hong Kong Economic and Trade Exchange Symposium. Held under the theme “Leveraging Hong Kong’s Core Strengths in Services to Help Dongguan Enterprises Expand into International Markets,” delegates engaged with representatives from 24 Dongguan businesses on leveraging Hong Kong’s professional services to help them access the international market.
In his keynote speech, Lee said: “We are delighted to meet with Dongguan businesses to understand each other’s needs and strengths, which allows us to introduce Hong Kong’s service industry landscape and provide practical support for Dongguan businesses that aspire to go global.”
Chamber representatives also shared their experiences in overseas expansion, covering areas such as sustainability, accounting and auditing, wealth management, litigation and mediation.
