It was an honour to welcome the Governor of Guangdong, Wang Weizhong, to the Chamber on 20 March. Chairman Agnes Chan, together with Vice Chairman PC Yu, HKGCC LegCo Representative Jeffrey Lam, General Committee members and committee chairmen, received the delegation.
Wang acknowledged Hong Kong’s contributions to Guangdong’s development, particularly in technology, talent and capital. He said both economies share the goal of fostering growth in the GBA and expressed gratitude for Hong Kong’s ongoing investment in the province. He welcomed policy feedback from Chamber members on cross-border cooperation in finance, logistics, transportation, new energy and talent development. They also discussed the “Northbound Travel for Hong Kong Vehicles” policy.
Reaffirming Guangdong’s commitment to deepening cooperation with Hong Kong in legal services and arbitration, Wang said legislative reform can be explored to ensure compliance with international standards for cross-border collaboration. Technology and innovation are key priorities, while renewable energy has become the province’s ninth industry to attain a valuation of over RMB 1 trillion.
He added that Hong Kong could use its expertise in foreign financial, accounting and regulatory systems to help Guangdong’s renewable energy sector expand globally.
Chamber Chairman Agnes Chan noted that Premier Li Qiang highlighted the importance for Hong Kong and Macao to “deepen international exchanges and cooperation” in this year’s Two Sessions. She emphasized that Hong Kong, as an international connector, should actively facilitate the Greater Bay Area’s integration into the global economy.
Wang said he looked forward to the Chamber assisting in promoting further investment and business expansion within the province.
