Chamber Chairman Agnes Chan and Vice Chairman PC Yu attended a reception hosted by the Compatriots of Commercial & Industrial Circles of Hong Kong on 26 September to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the People’s Republic of China.
Chief Executive John Lee was the officiating guest along with Yin Zonghua, Deputy Director of the Central Government’s Liaison Office in Hong Kong, Li Yongsheng, Deputy Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Hong Kong, Chan Kwok-kee, Secretary for Administration, and LegCo Chairman Andrew Leung Kwan-Yin.
Over 500 guests attended the event, which was organized by HKGCC, the Chinese General Chamber of Commerce, the Chinese Manufacturers’ Association of Hong Kong, the Federation of Hong Kong Industries, the Real Estate Developers Association of Hong Kong and the Hong Kong Chinese Enterprises Association.
Li Lirong, Deputy Director of Shen Zhen-Hong Kong-Macao Affairs Office visited the Chamber on 25 September. In a meeting with Chamber CEO Patrick Yeung, the two sides discussed the direction of future cooperation and ways to promote the development of the Greater Bay Area to create more investment opportunities for enterprises.
Zhang Aijun, Secretary of the Zhaoqing Municipal Committee, visited the Chamber on 25 September, where he was received by Chamber Vice Chairman PC Yu.
Located in northwest Guangdong, Zhaoqing serves as a key economic and transportation hub with a strong industrial base, particularly in electronics and automotive machinery. With its rapid economic growth, Zhaoqing has emerged as a leading manufacturing powerhouse in Guangdong, attracting significant investment from both domestic and foreign enterprises. Zhang expressed his hopes for deeper collaboration between Hong Kong and Zhaoqing businesses across various sectors, including smart manufacturing and green industries.
China Committee Vice Chairman Edmond Yew represented the Chamber at a networking luncheon hosted by the Canton Fair Hong Kong Representative Office on 26 September.
Chamber Vice Chairman PC Yu attended a seminar on the Mainland and Hong Kong Closer Economic Partnership Arrangement (CEPA) organized by the Trade and Industry Department on 9 October.
On the same day, an agreement was signed between the Ministry of Commerce and the Hong Kong Government to amend the terms of trade in services under the CEPA framework, further opening up the Mainland services market to provide Hong Kong enterprises and professional sectors with preferential access. It is set to take effect on 1 March 2025.
Fu Sheng, Mayor of Qionghai, Hainan Province, visited the Chamber on 14 October, where he was warmly welcomed by China Committee Chairman Felix Lee and members.
In recent years, the biomedical and pharmaceutical industries have gained significant attention and emerged as vital drivers of economic development. Fu discussed Qionghai’s economic and medical sectors, emphasizing the prospects of the biomedicine, healthcare and insurance industrial chains. He also highlighted the strong connection between the two regions, noting that approximately 400,000 Hainanese residents live in Hong Kong, fostering important channels for communication and collaboration.
Xing Zhengjun, Mayor of Lianyungang, Jiangsu Province, visited the Chamber on 14 October. In a meeting with China Committee Chairman Felix Lee, Xing showcased Lianyungang’s achievements in the biopharmaceutical and medical technology sectors.
He noted that the city’s pharmaceutical enterprises are actively pursuing innovation and expanding their operations. In 2023, Hengrui Pharmaceuticals and Sino Biopharm (CTTQ) ranked first and third, respectively, on the Chinese Pharmaceutical Industry’s Top 100 list.
Chamber China Committee Vice Chairman Edmond Yew attended the opening ceremony of the 136th China Import and Export Fair (Canton Fair) on 14 October.
Held under the theme “Serving high-quality development, promoting high-level opening-up,” this year’s Canton Fair attracted 147,000 overseas buyers. The event was hosted by the Ministry of Commerce and the People’s Government of Guangdong Province.
On the following day, Yew represented the Chamber at a meeting with Wang Shouwen, Deputy Secretary of the CPC Leadership Group of the Ministry of Commerce, China International Trade Representative, and Vice Minister of Commerce.
China Committee Chairman Felix Lee attended the 2024 Nansha Global Investment Promotion and Talent Attraction Conference in Nansha on 18 October.
Lee was invited to serve as a consultant to the Nansha Government, proposing measures and suggestions for industry development. Liu Wei, Secretary of Nansha District Committee, also attended the conference.
