Yu Hao, Deputy Director General of the Xiamen Municipal Bureau of Commerce and member of the Organizing Committee of the China International Fair for Investment & Trade (CIFIT), visited the Chamber on 23 July.
In a meeting with China Committee Vice Chairman Edmond Yew, Yu said that in addition to continuing to attract foreign investment, CIFIT will focus more on equity and fund investments. Many well-known financial companies, including Blackstone, Citibank, JP Morgan and HSBC, have been invited to participate in the fair. Zhejiang and Hungary are the guest province and guest country, respectively, for the 2024 edition.
The two sides also discussed how to promote the fair. Yew suggested that the rapid development of e-commerce in the Mainland could be utilized to increase publicity about the fair and create more investment opportunities for enterprises.
Chamber Chairman Agnes Chan attended the 24th CIFIT Hong Kong Promotion Symposium luncheon on 25 July. She was accompanied by China Committee Chairman Felix Lee and Vice Chairmen Edmond Yew and Neo Wang.
Zhou Qiang, Head of the Commercial Office of Economic Affairs Department, Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the HKSAR and Yu Hao, Deputy Director General, Xiamen Municipal Bureau of Commerce and member of the Organizing Committee of China International Fair for Investment & Trade (CIFIT), shared valuable insights into the latest developments in China’s international investment and trade, and provided an introduction to the fair.
HKGCC General Committee member Roy Ng represented the Chamber at the 24th Joint Meeting on Upgrading and Transformation of Hong Kong Enterprises in Hong Kong on 24 July.
At the conference, corporations operating in Dongguan were given the opportunity to share their experiences and the challenges they face. The annual event serves as a productive exchange platform between the Hong Kong business community and the Dongguan Government, fostering collaboration and growth.
China Committee Vice Chairman Neo Wang attended the Hunan Xiangjiang New Area (Hong Kong) Financial Cooperation and Exchange Promotion Conference in Hong Kong on 25 July. The conference promoted collaboration between Hong Kong financial institutions and Hunan Province. In 2023, Hunan’s use of capital from Hong Kong was about US$1.3 billion, accounting for 90% of the province’s foreign capital.
In his address, Tan Yong, Deputy Party Secretary of the CPC Changsha Municipal Committee, Secretary of the Party Working Committee of the Hunan Xiangjiang New Area (Changsha National High-Tech Industrial Development Zone), and Party Secretary of the CPC Yuelu District Committee, emphasized the Xiangjiang New Area’s commitment to establishing a top-tier business environment characterized by market orientation, adherence to the rule of law, and internationalization. It would also provide convenient administrative services and favourable policy support for financial institutions and enterprises investing there while fostering collaboration with Hong Kong.
China Committee Chairman Felix Lee attended a briefing on Guangdong’s investment promotion policies on 26 July. Zhang Jinsong, Director General of the Department of Commerce of Guangdong Province, delivered the address. The event was organized by the Department of Commerce of Guangdong Province.
Chamber Chairman Agnes Chan and CEO Patrick Yeung attended a special seminar on 6 August for the Hong Kong business community to study President Xi Jinping’s letter to Hong Kong entrepreneurs with ties to Ningbo.
Chan said Hong Kong businesses should work to promote such entrepreneurial spirit, unite the forces of patriotism, and contribute to the advancement of China and national rejuvenation.
The “Colourful Guizhou Style – Guizhou Baijiu Global Tour,” held in Hong Kong on 12 August, was a lively event promoting exchange and cooperation between Guizhou liquor enterprises and Hong Kong’s food and beverage sector.
The event, which was attended by China Committee members, greatly enhanced the visibility of Guizhou products and the potential for expansion into international markets.
Chamber Chairman Agnes Chan attended the Guizhou-Hong Kong Economic, Trade, Cultural and Tourism Cooperation seminar in Hong Kong on 13 August. Linghu Shaohui, Deputy Director of the Department of Commerce of Guizhou Province, hosted the event.
In her address, Chan said the economies are strategic partners, and can work to enhance cooperation in the modern service industry, digital economy, culture, tourism and other relevant sectors.
China Committee Chairman Felix Lee and six members attended the Investment Promotion Conference for Facilitating the Collaborative Development of Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao on 13 August.
Government officials from Zhongshan, Maoming, Yangjiang, Jiangmen and Zhanjiang gave detailed presentations on Western Guangdong’s business policies at the event, which was organized by the Zhuhai Municipal People’s Government.
Edmond Yew, Vice Chairman of the China Committee, and 15 members represented the Chamber at the Guangzhou-Hong Kong Service Industry Open Cooperation Exchange Conference on 14 August. During the conference, Guangzhou representatives provided insights into the recent collaborations between Guangzhou and Hong Kong.
Xu Yuhao, Chairman of Wuliangye International (HK) Ltd, called on the Chamber on 14 August. China Committee Chairman Felix Lee received the delegation. Wuliangye is produced in Yibin City, Sichuan Province, and has a long brewing history. It ranks among the three most famous spirits in China.
He Xinhong, Deputy Director of the Shenzhen Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office, visited the Chamber on 14 August. He was received by Chamber Vice Chairman PC Yu. The two sides exchanged views on the Mainland Travel Permit for Hong Kong and Macao Residents (Non-Chinese Citizens) and boosting cooperation between Shenzhen, Hong Kong and Macao in tourism and business.
Rao Zhixin, Deputy Director of the Department of Commerce of Jiangxi Province, led a delegation to the Chamber on 14 August. They were welcomed by Chamber Vice Chairman PC Yu and China Committee Vice Chairman Edmond Yew.
To deepen economic and trade exchanges and cooperation between Jiangxi Province and the GBA, the Jiangxi Provincial Department of Commerce held the Jiangxi Province and Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan Business Cooperation and Exchange Conference on 3 September.
China Committee members participated in the Second Roundtable Meeting on the Development of the Greater Bay Area in Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao on 15 August.
Organized by the Guangdong CCPIT, the conference explored innovative strategies to leverage the strengths and resources of the GBA to promote collaborative innovation and integrated development in the region.
Hunan’s business environment, investment policies and projects were the focus of the Hunan Food and Tea Promotion Seminar on 15 August. Besides attending the conference, China Committee members also participated in the Specialty Agricultural Products Promotion Seminar on 16 August. Organized by the Department of Agriculture and Rural Affairs of Hunan Province, 33 Hunan agricultural enterprises participated in the seminar, which covered fruits and vegetables, grains and oils, poultry, tea and other categories.
China Committee Chairman Felix Lee attended the Hong Kong Industry Representatives Seminar, organized by the Shenzhen Qianhai Government, on 16 August. The conference focused on promoting the legal and regulatory interface and connectivity between Qianhai and Hong Kong, linking infrastructural facilities and encouraging collaboration between the youths of Shenzhen and Hong Kong.
Zhao Shuxin, Deputy Director, Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office, Jilin Province, visited the Chamber on 16 August. Chamber Vice Chairman PC Yu, General Committee member and Belt and Road Convenor Edmond Yue and members received the delegation. Enterprises from Jilin took the opportunity to showcase their products at the meeting, and both sides explored different ways to help the firms develop the international market.
On the same day, Chamber Vice Chairman PC Yu, General Committee member and Belt and Road Convenor Edmond Yue and China Committee Vice Chairman Edmond Yew met with Jiang Yan, Director of Finance and Statistics, Department of Commerce, Yunnan Province.
Chamber Chairman Agnes Chan participated in a conference to promote China’s peaceful reunification on 20 August. Shi Taifeng, Member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and Minister of the United Front Work Department of the CPC Central Committee, delivered the address. Over 1,200 representatives from more than 50 countries and regions attended the event.
