Oscar Tan, Barrister-at-law, Institute for Corporate Legal Training

Oscar Tan is a practicing barrister, accredited mediator and educator. He was called to the Bar in 2015 and obtained his mediator accreditation from the Hong Kong Mediation Accreditation Association Ltd (HKMAAL) in 2013 and the Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre (HKIAC) in 2006. Oscar has a wide range of legal practices with a particular focus on mediation and criminal litigation. He has experience in both the prosecution and defense of criminal cases and has previously served as a public prosecutor. His civil practice includes personal injuries, land, building management, contractual & financial disputes, mediation, and dispute resolution. Oscar has been appointed the first Administrator of the Lehman Brothers-related Investment Products Mediation and Arbitration Scheme commissioned by the Hong Kong Monetary Authority, the first Mediation Coordinator of the Law Society of Hong Kong, the first Senior Mediator cum Dispute Resolution Manager of the Financial Dispute Resolution Centre, and the first Mediation Executive of the HKIAC serving the Secretariat of HKMAAL. He has also served as a consultant and subsequently Assistant Hon. Secretary of the Joint Mediation Helpline Office (JMHO) during the period from 2013-2018.

Oscar is a seasoned speaker and educator. He is currently the Course Leader of the Mediation and Negotiation Course and Chinese Legal Practice Course under the PCLL Programme of the City University of Hong Kong. He is also a part-time lecturer of the LLM Programme of the University of Hong Kong and taught mediation at PolyU. Supported by the Working Group on Mediation led by the Secretary for Justice, Oscar published the 1st and 2nd editions of the “Mediation and Dispute Resolution Handbook”. He is one of the co-authors of the first “negotiation, communication and dispute resolution” teaching pack for secondary schools. He is also a co-author of the title “Construction Contract Essentials” published by the HKU Press in 2017 and the Annotator of the Annotated Ordinance: Magistrates’ Ordinance, Cap 227 published by Lexis Nexis in 2021.

Notes - Bookings are only confirmed upon receipt of payment, on a first come first served basis.
- Booking transfer is allowed for corporate members with advanced notice, walk-ins are normally not accepted.
- The Chamber reserves the right to decline any booking or cancel the event. In such case, a full refund of the participation fee will be issued.
- No refund will be made for last minute cancellations or no-shows. If the booking is cancelled at least 7 days before the event, and in such cases the refund will be subjected to a 10% administration fee, or HK$100 deduction, whichever is higher.
- Members paying with their BOC HKGCC Visa Card will enjoy a 30% discount on their reservation. The discount is only applicable to the card holder, and does not extend to their guests. The discount cannot be used in conjunction with Chamber Coupons.

- Priority is given to corporate members. The decision to accept or decline any booking shall be at sole discretion of the Chamber.
- Participants agree to indemnify the Chamber and the hosting party all liabilities for property damage, physical injury or death in relation to this event. Participants are advised to take their own insurance against all risks.
