Cancer has always been associated with helplessness and fear. Pancreatic and gastrointestinal cancers are among the challenging malignancies, often characterized by aggressive progression, having short survival terms, and causing great pain to the patients. But with the advancement of medical technology and integrative therapy, the survival term of cancer has been extended and the effectiveness of treatment has been greatly ameliorated.

This talk, presented by Professor Jiangang Shen, Professor, School of Chinese Medicine, The University of Hong Kong, will delve into the knowledge about pancreatic and gastrointestinal cancer and the innovative approaches and advancements in integrative therapy, specifically tailored for individuals undergoing treatments for pancreatic and other gastrointestinal cancers, for enhancing the long-term survival of patients. The audience will have the opportunity to learn about different treatments, such as herbal medicine and therapeutic, in addition to surgeries and chemotherapy. The seminar also shed light on the available resources and support networks for patients and their families seeking integrative care.

Prof Jiangang Shen, Professor, School of Chinese Medicine, The University of Hong Kong

Prof Shen is currently working in the School of Chinese Medicine and State Key Laboratory of Pharmaceutical Biotechnology at HKU. Prof Shen has expertise in Chinese Medicine and Integrative Medicine for Neurology, Cardiovascular Diseases and Oncology. He has also served in many associations and committees related to Chinese medicine. In addition to his extensive academic research, Prof. Shen has several clinical experiences, especially in Traditional Chinese Medicine for treatments of cardiovascular diseases, cerebral vascular diseases, neurodegenerative diseases, insomnia and mental disorders, diabetes and metabolic syndrome, pancreatic cancer, gastrointestinal cancer, and brain cancer, etc.

Prof Shen has held administrative positions at the University of Hong Kong, including Chair of the Department of Research Postgraduate Committee and Associate Director for Research in the School of Chinese Medicine. He has also contributed to the Hong Kong Health Community, participating in committees focused on Chinese medicine development. With a Ph.D. in Biophysics from the Institute of Biophysics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and a Master of Medical Science in Integrated Medicine from Sun Yat-sen University of Medical Science, he has pursued postdoctoral research at prestigious institutions like Brigham and Women's Hospital and Harvard Medical School. Prof Shen has received numerous honors, including the Scientific Achievement Award in Chinese Medicine, and is actively involved in professional societies and committees internationally.

- Booking transfer is allowed for corporate members with advanced notice, walk-ins are normally not accepted.
- The Chamber reserves the right to decline any booking or cancel the event. In such case, a full refund of the participation fee will be issued.
- No refund will be made for last minute cancellations or no-shows. If the booking is cancelled at least 3 days before the event, and in such cases the refund will be subjected to a 10% administration fee, or HK$100 deduction, whichever is higher.
