The last decade ended with record heatwaves in many places in the northern hemisphere and raging bushfires in Australia. In Hong Kong, 2019 was the warmest year on record since 1884 according to the Observatory.
Rising temperatures, largely due to greenhouse gases produced by human activities, are the main contributors to climate change. This has had knock-on effects not only on the environment but also threatens the global economy and human health. It is therefore imperative that all segments of the community, including the business sector, work hand in hand to rethink our consumption habits if we are to reduce our carbon footprint.
To help members get started on how to effectively manage their carbon emissions, we are delighted to have invited Raymond Yau of Swire Properties to share his company's approach in formulating a Science-based decarbonisation target. He will be joined by Business Environment Council's Simon Ng, who will introduce BEC's Low Carbon Charter, which provides a framework for setting carbon reduction targets for companies at every stage of their journey to "net zero" decarbonisation.
To prevent the spread of Covid-19, food and beverages will not be provided during the event and Chamber staff will be conducting temperature checks at the premises. We also kindly ask that all event participants wear a mask when attending the event.
