What's On

The last decade ended with record heatwaves in many places in the northern hemisphere and raging bushfires in Australia. In Hong Kong, 2019 was the warmest year on record since 1884 according to the Observatory.

Rising temperatures, largely due to greenhouse gases produced by human activities, are the main contributors to climate change. This has had knock-on effects not only on the environment but also threatens the global economy and human health. It is therefore imperative that all segments of the community, including the business sector, work hand in hand to rethink our consumption habits if we are to reduce our carbon footprint.

To help members get started on how to effectively manage their carbon emissions, we are delighted to have invited Raymond Yau of Swire Properties to share his company's approach in formulating a Science-based decarbonisation target. He will be joined by Business Environment Council's Simon Ng, who will introduce BEC's Low Carbon Charter, which provides a framework for setting carbon reduction targets for companies at every stage of their journey to "net zero" decarbonisation.

To prevent the spread of Covid-19, food and beverages will not be provided during the event and Chamber staff will be conducting temperature checks at the premises. We also kindly ask that all event participants wear a mask when attending the event.

Speaker(s) Dr Raymond Yau is the General Manager, Technical Services & Sustainable Development with Swire Properties. As head of the Department of Technical Services and Sustainability, Raymond is responsible for formulating and providing support to the implementation of sustainability strategies within Swire Properties. He is also responsible for providing technical support to the company's operations across Hong Kong, Mainland China and the US to safeguard its real estate assets and uphold standards in environmental performance and energy management.

Before joining Swire, Raymond was an Arup Fellow and Director of Arup in Hong Kong, an international engineering consultancy company. Raymond possesses over 28 years of experience in the design of sustainable and environmental friendly buildings, infrastructure and sustainability consulting across the globe.

Mr Simon Ng is Director – Policy & Research at the Business Environment Council. He is responsible for BEC's work on policy advocacy, thought leadership development, and collaborative research on various environmental issues that BEC focuses on.

Simon has over 20 years of experience in academic/policy research, project management and stakeholder's engagement. Before joining BEC, he was Chief Research Officer of a leading independent public policy thinktank and was a visiting scholar at a top university in Hong Kong.
