One of Hong Kong's best-known financial architects and non-official member of the Executive Council, the Hon Joseph Yam Chi-kwong will share with members his views on the finance sector at the Chamber's ongoing "Town Hall Forum Series" on 27 November.
Yam, who headed the Hong Kong Monetary Authority for 16 years before retiring in 2009, is one of the few public figures who has an in-depth understanding of the economic workings of Hong Kong and Mainland China's financial systems.
He was instrumental in establishing Hong Kong's linked exchange rate system in 1983, strengthening Hong Kong's financial systems before Hong Kong's handover in 1997, and subsequently reinforcing regulations which eased the pain of the Asian Financial Crisis of 1997-98 and the global financial crisis of 2008-09.
