On 17 November, members enjoyed an eventful visit to the Hongkong International Terminals (HIT) at the Kwai Tsing Container Terminals. Members toured the Visitor Centre and the Remote Control Centre to learn about the history of HIT and how HIT has gradually transitioned to using more automated equipment for their daily operations. The visit ended with a Yard Tour, where members were shown around the 12 berths HIT operates to see the loading and unloading of cargos up close.

Hutchison Port Holdings Ltd

The Shipping & Transport Committee organised a visit to the Hongkong International Terminal on 21 November, as a featuring event in the Hong Kong Maritime Week. Jeannie Chiu, Manager, Group Corporate Affairs of Hutchison Port Holdings Ltd introduced the terminal’s background to the group. She said, Hongkong International Terminal is being regarded as a “Catch-Up Port” due to its efficiency, where shipping time lose on route is able to make up in this terminal with the help of its world-class facilities. The Terminal recently implemented AI technologies and automated computer system to better utilize its manpower and enhance the safety standard. Members also had the opportunity to visit the Remote Control Centre and the yard and experienced the daily operation inside the port.
