Visit to Vitargent at HKSTP
At a visit to the Hong Kong Science & Technology Parks Corporation (HKSTP) on 6 September, members had the chance to explore HKSTP’s Experience Centre and visit the laboratory of 2 award-winning companies, Vitargent (International) Biotechnology Limited and PHASE Scientific, to learn more about their technology and how they have been making breakthroughs in the biomedical industry.

Catalysing Re-industrialisation in Hong Kong
A lack of resources is often a key obstacle confronting Hong Kong manufacturers that want to upgrade their operations. Fortunately, there is no shortage of support from the Government and other public organizations to help businesses. At a Chamber webinar on 29 September, Rebecca Pun, Commissioner for Innovation and Technology, briefed members on an array of funding programmes and measures promoting re-industrialisation and innovation and technology development in Hong Kong, including the recently launched Re-industrialisation Funding Scheme which aimed at facilitating the setting up of smart production lines in Hong Kong. She was joined by Dr HL Yiu, Head of Re-industrialisation from the Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation, who spoke about the various initiatives administered by the Science Park to assist businesses develop smart manufacturing.

Thriving Under the New Normal
“IndustryConnect,” a service provided by the Hong Kong Science and Technology Park (HKSTP) to connect park companies with businesses, was held online at the Chamber for the first time on 30 June. At the webinar, six HKSTP resident companies -- Integrated Solutions, MotherApp, Shopkyo, Time Medical, Titanology and Tung Hing Automation Investment -- presented their various unique and innovative solutions for businesses to enhance their operations and seize the opportunities arising as a result of the global pandemic.

Exploring Homegrown I&T developments
Members had the opportunity to learn about the latest developments in Hong Kong’s journey to becoming a hub for innovation and technology during a Industryconnect@Science Park event organized by the Chamber on 26 September. The half-day programme kicked off with a business-matching session where members exchanged thoughts and ideas with science park companies specializing in technologies related to healthy ageing, e-commerce, automation and smart workplace. This was followed by a Smart Campus Guided Tech Tour that showcased some of the latest technological achievements at the Science Park. These included Hong Kong’s first fully automated and unmanned warehouse, an unmanned retail store and an ice-cream serving robot.

Innovating for a Better Future
The Hong Kong Science and Technology Park (HKSTP) has adopted a multi-pronged strategy to support Hong Kong in its aim to become an international innovation and technology (I&T) hub, and is making impressive progress. Raymond Wong, Head of Investment at HKSTP, spoke at a Chamber roundtable luncheon on 19 June about the latest developments at the park in promoting I&T as a key economic activity in Hong Kong. He also shared stories of a number of outstanding tenants that have achieved international success across the five cluster industries that are high on HKSTP’s priority list – including its two unicorns, SenseTime and Lalamove.
