Mapping the Art World: The Art Ecosystem
Rapid growth in the global art market on the past two decades is driving interest in this complex and fascinating sector. Sara Mao, Director for Christie’s Education in Asia, gave an overview of the art world ecosystem and provided her insights into the current trends at a chamber roundtable event.
She introduced participants to the history of the global market in art as it evolved over the past few hundred years, with the focus shifting from patrons to the artist. Mao also provided her insights into the ecosystem today, including the roles of artists, dealers, collectors, auction houses and museums, as well as the strong potential in the rapidly developing Chinese art market.
