Islamic finance and market opportunities were the subject of interest at the Financial & Treasury Services Meeting on 22 September. Guest speakers included Amirali B. Nasir, Vice President and Chairman of the Islamic Affairs Working Party of the Law Society of Hong Kong and Ahsan Ali, Managing Director and Head of Islamic Corporate & Investment Banking, Standard  Chartered, who shared their perspectives on the development of Islamic finance in Hong Kong. Amirali introduced the central tenets of Islam and the principles of Islamic banking, highlighting the importance of cultural and religious etiquette in working with Muslim clients. Ahsan added his insights on Islamic financial instruments and market opportunities, and highlighted Hong Kong’s strong potential to attract increased investment by supporting companies and institutions that prefer Sharia-compliant financial products and services.
