Driving Hong Kong's Sustainable Transportation Future: A Comprehensive Look at the 2024 Policy Address Initiatives
At the committee meeting on 20 January, Under Secretary for Transport & Logistics, C S Liu, provided members with a comprehensive update on the latest initiatives within the transport and logistics sector. Liu underscored the Transport & Logistics Bureau's commitment to establishing a digitalized port community system by the end of 2025 to streamline data sharing processes and to positioning Hong Kong as a leading green maritime fuel bunkering center. Moreover, the Bureau plans to bolster the preferential tax regime for maritime services to foster the growth of high value-added maritime services. By introducing related tax concessions, the goal is to attract both Mainland and overseas enterprises to establish operations in Hong Kong.
With the Three-Runway System operational at Hong Kong International Airport since November 2024, the Bureau will intensify efforts to identify new destinations and flight routes to elevate air cargo throughput and enhance tourism support. These efforts are geared towards creating a welcoming environment for visitors. Additionally, specific targets have been outlined for the utilization of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) for flights departing from Hong Kong International Airport, further underlining the commitment to environmental sustainability within the aviation sector.
