Updates on Climate, Sustainability, and ESG in Real Estate
The Real Estate and Infrastructure Committee hosted a seminar on climate, sustainability, and ESG in the built environment alongside its regular meeting on 3 September. The event discussed the opportunities and risks facing Hong Kong’s real estate sector as it advances towards carbon neutrality by 2025.
Joseph Law, Committee Vice-Chairman opened with remarks on the Committee’s strategic priorities. The ensuing panel discussion, moderated by Bruce Chong, Committee Vice-Chairman, provided key insights offered by industry experts into trends shaping Hong Kong’s green transition and building sustainability standards. The panellists – Tsun Chen, Secretary General at Hong Kong Green Finance Association; Harry Lai, Executive Director, Hong Kong Green Building Council; Merlin Lao, Head of Policy & Research, Business Environment Council; Michael Long, Director and Head of Sustainability, Hongkong Land; and Justin Wu, Head of Climate Change Asia Pacific, HSBC - also stressed the importance of cross sector collaboration and expressed their optimism for progress and innovation in sustainable development and infrastructure.
