Where is Globalisation Headed Amid Coronavirus?

Ian Goldin, Oxford University Professor of Globalisation and Development, shared his insights into the changes that Covid-19 may bring to the supply chain, globalisation trends and the global economic order at a webinar on 3 June. Professor Goldin said the fragmentation of supply chains had reached a peak in 2019 due to automation, customization, delivery time and protectionism. Despite the impact of the pandemic, he said he is optimistic about the growth prospects in Asia, which has managed the coronavirus outbreak better than other regions in the world. He noted that the centre of gravity of globalisation is moving to Asia, and said that he hoped Hong Kong is resilient enough to weather the storm and to emerge stronger.
