Dr Alicia Garcia-Herrero, Chief Economist for Asia Pacific at Natixis, analyzed the impact of Covid-19 on Europe’s economy at the Chamber’s webinar on 9 June. She said despite the huge shock brought by the virus, the European economy is fortunately on a path to recovery. Investment is, however, still suffering as corporate debt continues to pile up, and there is also the question of consumer confidence.

She was joined by Dr Simon Shen, Adjunct Associate Professor, Faculty of Social Science at CUHK, who discussed the political implication of Covid-19 on European governments and the whole region. He pointed out that the pandemic has reignited the sentiment about deglobalization. European countries are reconsidering their future with other nations, and embracing more protective and centralized policies.
