Hong Kong is one of the world’s richest cities, yet almost one-fifth of the population is classed as living in poverty, surviving on as little as HK$4,000 a month.. Food Angel is a local charity that helps these most vulnerable members of our society, and at the same time rescues surplus food from going to waste. A group of members from the Chamber’s Young Executives Club spent the afternoon of 12 March volunteering at Food Angel Kowloon Kitchen to help prepare more than 1,500 hot meal boxes, which were then distributed to some of the city’s underprivileged residents. The YEC volunteers also served meals to the elderly at the Sham Shui Po Community Centre and enjoyed chatting with them about their lives. This is the fifth time that YEC has teamed up with Food Angel to give our members the opportunity to help out in the local community.
