On 6 February, over 20 members enjoyed an exclusive visit to the South China Morning Post’s office in Causeway Bay.
Seeing What Makes South China Morning Post Tick

We all like to get our South China Morning Post morning news fix to start off the day, but few people understand how this well-oiled media giant has been keeping Hong Kong – and the world for that matter – informed since its first broadsheet rolled off the press on 6 November 1903.

To see behind the scenes, the Chamber organized a visit to the South China Morning Post’s Causeway Bay office on 6 February, where SCMP Chief Operating Officer Kevin Huang showed how the publisher is now far much more than a newspaper. Members were shown around its photography studios and video editing hub to learn how technology plays an increasingly important role in its daily operations and in keeping audiences engaged. These include digital touchpoints and mounted screens in the newsroom, offering real-time analysis on SCMP content performance.

SCMP and HKGCC have enjoyed close collaboration over the decades and the newspaper first mention of HKGCC on 16 November 1903, just 10 days after its first print run. SCMP also used to publish HKGCC’s monthly magazine The Bulletin as well as Annual Reports for many years.

Following the tour, members enjoyed networking over drinks at one of their themed social hubs Paddles after the tour, which was topped off by visit leader and Chairman of the Chamber’s Europe Committee Alfonso Ballesteros presenting Kevin with a souvenir to thank him for hosting the visit.
