 | | We had the pleasure of hosting a business delegation from Türkiye on 14 April, led by the Kocaeli Chamber of Industry (KCI) for fruitful exchanges on opportunities and collaboration. Chamber CEO Patrick Yeung and HKGCC Europe Committee Vice Chairmen Stratos Pourzitakis, PhD and Bjoern Lindner welcomed the guests, alongside leaders from the Asia, Africa & Middle East and Environment and Sustainability committees.
Accompanied by Dinçer Tatlıoğlu, Commercial Attaché of the Consulate General of the Republic of Türkiye, Nurcan Babalik, Chairman of the TOBB Marmara Region Women Entrepreneurs Council and the delegates briefly introduced their companies. KCI representative Mehmet Egemen Mert highlighted Kocaeli’s prominent role in Türkiye’s industrial production. With a population of 2.1 million and 14 organized industrial zones, Kocaeli represents 13% of the country’s manufacturing industry.
Pourzitakis said the Customs Union between the EU and Türkiye has created significant opportunities for the Turkish economy, enhancing the country’s access to the €1.4 trillion EU market. Meanwhile, China’s Belt and Road Initiative, along with Hong Kong’s position as a leading offshore renminbi clearing hub, can facilitate investment for both Hong Kong and Türkiye.
Alison Tsui, Head of International Markets, Consulates and Chambers at Invest Hong Kong, provided valuable insights into the city’s unique status and advantages under the “One Country, Two Systems” framework. She also explained how InvestHK can assist overseas and Mainland companies in establishing their businesses here.

 | | Hong Kong boasts several notable records, one of the latest being Hong Kong ’s deepest, longest and largest sub-sea road tunnel connecting Tuen Mun to the Lap Kok Link. The extraordinary project was carried out by Dragages Hong Kong.
Delving into the company’s technology and philosophy, Etienne Fayette, Head of Digital, Innovation and Transformation at Dragages Hong Kong, spoke at the Europe Committee meeting on 25 February, along with Kelvin Choi, Deputy Engineering Director.
Reducing carbon emissions in construction is a collective goal that Dragages Hong Kong shares with industry players in both the public and private sectors. Fayette said the company incorporates eco-design and low-carbon materials into its operations to promote sustainable building practices and actively supports biodiversity at its worksites. He also noted that the company had gained tangible benefits from integrating big data and AI into construction operations, enhancing safety and reliability.

 | | We all like to get our South China Morning Post morning news fix to start off the day, but few people understand how this well-oiled media giant has been keeping Hong Kong – and the world for that matter – informed since its first broadsheet rolled off the press on 6 November 1903.
To see behind the scenes, the Chamber organized a visit to the South China Morning Post’s Causeway Bay office on 6 February, where SCMP Chief Operating Officer Kevin Huang showed how the publisher is now far much more than a newspaper. Members were shown around its photography studios and video editing hub to learn how technology plays an increasingly important role in its daily operations and in keeping audiences engaged. These include digital touchpoints and mounted screens in the newsroom, offering real-time analysis on SCMP content performance.
SCMP and HKGCC have enjoyed close collaboration over the decades and the newspaper first mention of HKGCC on 16 November 1903, just 10 days after its first print run. SCMP also used to publish HKGCC’s monthly magazine The Bulletin as well as Annual Reports for many years.
Following the tour, members enjoyed networking over drinks at one of their themed social hubs Paddles after the tour, which was topped off by visit leader and Chairman of the Chamber’s Europe Committee Alfonso Ballesteros presenting Kevin with a souvenir to thank him for hosting the visit.
